Kevin John Daboia AKA Venom 2

Yeah, I'm new to the idea that the Chinese make good knives, so I'm sure there are many I don't know about.
Chinese-made knives seem to follow the general rule that you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap Chinese-made knives, they won't be very well made. If you buy expensive (by Chinese standards) Chinese-made knives, they'll be very well made.

The Venom II is a great knife. I really do hope K. John takes a turn and does more original designs. I have a feeling though we do see originals from them but just under a different brand name. The only proof I have is basically knife forensics. When you pull two folders apart and see the same exact milling marks, bearing races and tooling marks you start to notice which legit chinese brands have strikingly similar build characteristics. There are a few brands even in the USA that are so distictive in the way they make knives that even when the ghost build something for another company it is usually pretty apparent who actually made it. These new chinese companies really arent any different. Still I cant figure out if they really are connected or if a few different companies outsource parts and share suppliers.

Still people really have to know what they are looking for with these new chinese knives. Especially if buying anything direct from china even if its an original design. I have been seeing a lot of chinese stuff that on first inspection looks flawless. And even seem to function fine. But once you take the knife apart that knife has shortcomings that become much more apparent. I would urge that anyone who buys a knife of chinese origin open the knife and disengage the lock and try to pull the blade. Some of these makers in china are drilling the hole in the blade way too big for the pivot. Most of the knives I buy are bearing flippers. Most have recesses cut into the blade for the bearings. A few of these knives blades are only centered because of the bearings and the pivot doesnt even contact the inside of the pivot hole drilled in the blade. Basically what I am recommending is that anyone buying a chinese knife look at the details. Things you would never think to check. Because the issues I am finding are dangerous. Many are fine. Some are not. But when something is wrong it takes a keen eye to spot. A good warning sign is if your chinese knife has had its screws superglued (happens more than you might expect) they dont want you opening for some reason or another and its not a warranty reason either obviously.

This is not Whine & Cheese. Watch the language. Make your posts advance the discussian. We do not appreciate trolling

Knock off Chinese knives really don't belong on a knife forum except as a warning not to buy them. I can see the allure of them and the value of buying something for cheap and that will be anyone prerogative to do. But I'll pass on that myself. I would say the great majority of members get more out of buying the real thing than supporting the knock off market.

Love my KJ Venom 2. Was smitten by it's form factor at first sight. Extremely high quality for the price.

This is not trolling it's sad that I recieved an infraction for expressing my extreme distaste for a guy that is one of the biggest counterfeiters of American knives out there. Shame on you sir. This shouldn't even be a "disscussian"

You weren't given an infraction for expressing your distaste. You were given an infraction for expressing your distaste in a distasteful manner that adds nothing to the conversation.

The most positive thing that could come from your post is that someone says "I agree." Any other response is going to get into ad hominem or derail this thread into another endless discussion about clones.

If your post would not seem out of place on a public bathroom's wall, then you probably shouldn't post it.

It is a good looking knife. The reason I wouldn't buy it is that I can't trust that the blade is actually S35vn. Also, there are a lot of knives in this price range from reputable companies with as good or better quality materials. If Kevin John is producing original designs now, good for them.

agree with this, but even if it was verified m390 for 25 bucks I'm not buying it. I wouldn't spend my hard earned dollars on a knife maker propped up by fakes. I'd feel too guilty after meeting fine folks like Sal and Chris Reeves in person and seeing how much hard work they put into their knives.

I agree with you also, db. Too little too late.
