keyring carry ...

Gadget54, I forgot how much cord I used. You can braid it with either gutted or full 550 cord. I used gutted. It's difficult to describe step by step how to braid the keychain, but it's easy once you get the hang of it. I'll have to take some pictures first. Will get back to you.

Inova Microlight, white LED. I posted a review here and here . Apparently, from what others have said, the Inova is better than the photon, and most other lights of its size. For $8, ya can't beat it!

Someone at some point mentioned that car ignition mechanisms are not designed to hold a lot of weight (stupid, right?), and so problems can be caused by having key rings that are too heavy. I'll just mention that, I have no idea if it's true.

Joe, that may or may not have been me in a previous post.

True Story

Background: my wife used to love to carry ALL her keys AND wallet/change-purse attached together with quick release rings.

Last summer, while barreling down the highway in our SUV in Fri. evening rush hour traffic we hit a slight rise and downgrade (i.e. a bump felt only at 70 mph). We were in the fast lane, and suddenly the car went DEAD and we were decelerating with traffic on our ass! Fortunately there was a median wide enough for us to pull over on and escape the traffic behind us. We then determined that the bump had lifted and twisted my wife's old mass of keys/wallet and turned-off the engine! Imagine if this had happened while passing on a 2-lane road! Yikes!

Moral to the Story: Keep any keys you use in your auto's ignition within reason--reason being defined as less mass than necessary to turn the ignition in the manner experienced by my wife and I in the above scenario.

Hope that helps.

BTW, on my keys, I carry usually a Photon Microlight II or III and sometimes a Leatherman Micra in one of OnScene's G-neck sheaths. I also always have one of those "clippies" (used to clip ID badges) on my keyring--very useful for clipping keys to just about anything and preventing their loss or misplacement. :)

This setup is not as heavy as it might look.

The measuring tape is a new addition and I am not sure if it will stay.

Two photon IIIs , RED / WHITE, handcuff key, Custom made leather bookmarker ;) 1 inch spyderco police model, Green Glow ring. A Glock 26 ;) and the bloody keys which just keep getting in the way of the cool stuff.

My keychain includes:

1. Spyderco Jester
2. White Photon II(might be replaced with an Arc AAA)
3. Texas Firestarter-consisting of a cylindrical piece of magnesium (about 2" in length) with a smaller cylindrical piece of flint permanently affixed on one side, and a 2 1/2" striker
4. spy capsule
5. a P38
6. small swiss-army type tool with tiny scissors, blade, file, tweezers, toothpick
7. keys

I also plan on adding a paracord lanyard, but I haven't decided on what amount of cord(when unraveled) to use.:D

-Swisstech Utili-Key;
-Blue PhotonII Microlight;
-small emergency whistle;
-LaGriffe knife (or JAK clear Stinger if needed in PC environment)...
Oh, and I used to carry just the keys and light with the smaller version ASP Airweight baton, it actually wasn't very heavy and the baton connector on the base of the baton was very strong and well-made; now I just carry the ASP now and then since it wasn't cheap to buy and I have the Monadnock mini-baton with their newer locking ball-bearing system....except I can't use this nice little baton for a keychain cause it's seriously heavy for it's size!

I'm gonna carry the M4 SeberTool on my keyring for a while to see if I need it. I've worked out that one of my keys is for a bike lock I don't have for a bike I don't have... Another is for a cash box I keep open, and that I still have a court key for a tennis club I was a member of about a decade ago.

People may complain that they have too much "stuff" on their keyrings but do you guys think about whether you actually need all the keys?

Swiss Tech Utilikey, SAK Tinkerer, Magnisum Firestarter, a wad of paraffin soaked cotton for tinder, P38, about 6 foot of 550 paracord wrapped around a keyring to make a ball/monkey fist, a LED keyring light, and keys.

I keep it pretty simple: Inova Microlight (blue) and an Uncle Bills Sliver Gripper. I used to work in a machine shop and used these precision tweezers all the time. Work in a warehouse now and they still get a lot of use from me and my co-workers.

Sliver Gripper

I used to ride motorcycles a lot. One day I was riding my old Suzuki 750 to work on the 405 freeway when I hit a bump. When I looked down, I noticed that my keyes were GONE! I got off at the next offramp and circled back three times, but it seems that my keyes were stuck in someone's tire and gone. It made the rest of the day much more complicated than I would have liked.

Ever since then, I've been careful to keep my ignition key on a detachable keyring and only it goes in the ignition. This strategy works well with Valets and if you have multiple vehicles.

I also don't like teh "tumor on leg " look, so I keep my work keys on a seperate ring from my personal keys and keep them in a different pocket.

The only attachment I have at teh moment is a Photon III.
