What do you guys think of devloping a khukuri neck knife you could take everywhere with you!? How about a folding khukuri to carry in your pocket? A folding/tactical Khukuri would be a huge challenge to build properly.A neck knife wouldn't be to hard to make. They both would be really neat!!!!

Well it depends on how big of a guy you are, and how big your neck is.

I thought that the baby GRS would make a great neck knife!

Actually, I have seen, in a number of colletions, the six inch Kagas Katne Khukuri, in leather and kydex sheaths, being used as a neck knife. One person I talked to said it wasn't really satisfactory in that role.

But it sure looked neat!! Go to the SmoothSale HI Website for price, description, and pictue.

Custom neck knife sheath for kagas katne by forumite bcaffrey, a very neat little rig:

Berkley,

Yup, that's one of the ones I saw. I think another HI Forumite had one in a kydex rig, though I might be just hallucinating after seeing such a great collection.

Actually, a 12 inch Sirupati might make a great little neck knife in the right rig. Or a very compact "garter knife" for that favorite significant other!

The Columbia Bay Knife Club model was what I was refering to. 9" oal, and 5.5" blade.

Rusty --- I think it is The Chespeake Bay Knife Club model which you were trying to say --- am I correct?

BTW, I guess The Bhag Marne is also look real fancy as a neck knife! I guess very few of us who has that cute model ... and I guess BirGorkha could always reproduce it with enhancement so that it only has a single sharp edge

! What do you say Pakcik Bill ?

... of course I like to have a Single Sharp Edged Bhag Marne version 2001 made by BirGorkha ...

Thanks for saving me some work, Berk.

For those who didn't see my original post, the knife is retained in the sheath by both a friction fit & magnets inside the sheath.

The kagas katne works fairly well as a novelty NK but it does have its limitations. The tang extends about 2" into the handle, past the center rings. This is fine for light utility use but I wouldn't want to put much pressure on the back of the handle. The steel takes a very good edge but it is a bit softer than I prefer and would require frequent sharpening if it were used regularly. Finally, if you are thinking about concealed carry, it is about 9/16" thick at the end of the handle & will "print" a under a t or knit shirt.

I remember there was some interest a while back about making a kagas katne version designed to overcome these shortcomings but I don't think it got past the discussion stage. I know I'd be interested. Anyone else?

A 12" Sirupati as a neck knife? At 6'2" I can conceal some amazingly large blades very well but this may be pushing the envelope a bit, Rene.

(Actually, I do intend to set up my 12" Sirupati with it's 1/2" spine in a shoulder rig.)

BTW, please accept my belated welcome to the cantina, Chris.

Well if any of the rest of you are like me and my younger brother you could suspend the scabbard by the bottom and top after removing the frog and use it for an UTB carry.
A good sized khukuri will not print with this type of carry and especially if you're inclined to like and wear loose baggy t-shirts like I do.

Oh, and I suppose you now want to know what UTB is?

I have two of those small khukuri's and like them however I believe:

a khukuri is best big.

khukuris are best at being BIG! Although in this day and age you just can't take them everwhere with you.A very small but stout khukuri would enable you to bring it everywhere with you legally. And being built stout enough would be staying somewhat within the traditional lines of khukuri. Believe me, if I could, my ang khola would be with me 24/7/365. But I don't believe my co-worker would appreciate me pulling out a 3 pound, 18 inch knife to clean my finger nails with!!!!!!!!!!!!!
