So a few years back, I was sharing some of my Schrade knives with my dad. In a switch of position from when I was a boy and he would give me a knife, I told him to choose whatever knives he wanted. He chose this great Walden 760 pattern.

Everytime I was over to visit, he would take it out and rave about how sharp it got, and what a great knife it was. Flash forward to a few months back, he said it had some cracks in it. Swears he didn't drop it or anything like that. I was immediately concerned about cell outgassing, and once I was able to get a hold of it, I was able to confirm the diagnosis.

Once I had it apart, sure enough, it was going...

This is a classic example of a cell knife that is fine for years, and then for no particular reason, it goes.

It wasn't too far gone, thank goodness, so I decided on a new suit for the knife. Just finished it up...

My dad isn't getting any younger, and he has had his share of health problems that have almost taken him from us more than once. He doesn't get down into his workshop any more to do anything on his scrollsaw, so stuff like this is a way for him to still get a little taste of being creative. I haven't given it back to him yet, I sure hope he likes it. I do anyways...

First rate Glenn. Not only on the knife but for your sentiments about your Dad. I'm sure he'll like it and swell up full of pride for what you've done for him.

That's one classy knife, and if his son made it even more attractive, then I can't think of a reason why your father won't be speechless for a moment once it's given to him.

Great looking knife but more important doing it for your dad. My son is 40 now and about a month ago we rode down to Gerry Drews house and I bought him a new skinner from Gerry. That was a great day to be able to share that experience with my son. I know your dad will appreciate this knife more than you will ever know because you did it for him. Good job:thumbup::thumbup:

Glenn he's going to treasure that knife, no doubt at all!
Beautiful job!! Wish you were my son!!

Glenn---the bone, the shield, everything about your makeover looks terrific.

Your dad will love it and it's going to mean the world to him, I bet.
