So a few years back, I was sharing some of my Schrade knives with my dad. In a switch of position from when I was a boy and he would give me a knife, I told him to choose whatever knives he wanted. He chose this great Walden 760 pattern.

Everytime I was over to visit, he would take it out and rave about how sharp it got, and what a great knife it was. Flash forward to a few months back, he said it had some cracks in it. Swears he didn't drop it or anything like that. I was immediately concerned about cell outgassing, and once I was able to get a hold of it, I was able to confirm the diagnosis.

Once I had it apart, sure enough, it was going...

This is a classic example of a cell knife that is fine for years, and then for no particular reason, it goes.
It wasn't too far gone, thank goodness, so I decided on a new suit for the knife. Just finished it up...

My dad isn't getting any younger, and he has had his share of health problems that have almost taken him from us more than once. He doesn't get down into his workshop any more to do anything on his scrollsaw, so stuff like this is a way for him to still get a little taste of being creative. I haven't given it back to him yet, I sure hope he likes it. I do anyways...
