Kind of a special one I saved from the brink

Fantastic work Glenn, as always. I'm sure your dad will be thrilled, and the knife is now even more special. Very interesting to see your pics too

That's really touching Glenn. Just that little bit of payback for all that your Dad has done in helping you to get you where you are now my friend.

The knife looks great. I just know your Dad will love this knife- because not only is it a very striking knife- but his Son rebuilt that knife just for him.

Congratulations Glenn!!!
Not only on the "save" from the out-gassing but also for saving a knife that obsessively means something special to your Father.
I'm sure he will be Very proud and pleased.
Great looking job!!!

Wow that's just amazing Glenn! I'm envious of your skills and the relationship with your father. I'm sure he will love it.

Glenn, I know being an owner of some of your magnificent works of art that your Dad will love it and especially since it came from you!

Glenn, you're obviously a superb son with mad skillz!!:thumbup:
Thanks for sharing the story!
(Although outgassing stories scare the heck out of me.)

Very very nice! You made a classic knife even better. Your dad's going to love it!

so a few years back, i was sharing some of my schrade knives with my dad. In a switch of position from when i was a boy and he would give me a knife, i told him to choose whatever knives he wanted. He chose this great walden 760 pattern.

everytime i was over to visit, he would take it out and rave about how sharp it got, and what a great knife it was. Flash forward to a few months back, he said it had some cracks in it. Swears he didn't drop it or anything like that. I was immediately concerned about cell outgassing, and once i was able to get a hold of it, i was able to confirm the diagnosis.

once i had it apart, sure enough, it was going...

this is a classic example of a cell knife that is fine for years, and then for no particular reason, it goes.

It wasn't too far gone, thank goodness, so i decided on a new suit for the knife. Just finished it up...

my dad isn't getting any younger, and he has had his share of health problems that have almost taken him from us more than once. He doesn't get down into his workshop any more to do anything on his scrollsaw, so stuff like this is a way for him to still get a little taste of being creative. I haven't given it back to him yet, i sure hope he likes it. I do anyways...

Glenn

- you did a gr8 resto on that Schrade Glenn especially because it was for your dad. Well done
