I purchased a Benchmade griptilian online and when it arrived in the mail i wasn't all that impressed with it, especially with all of the talk about benchmades. After carrying the knife for a while, I'm starting to get accustomed to it and really starting to like it. I wanted to see if there was anybody else that had purchased a knife and weren't impressed with it but ended up loving it

What do you not like about it? The grip is a great knife for about $80. Yes, its a little thick, but its a great knife.

Idk what it was exactly, it just didn't 'click' with me, granted its a great knife for the money, but it was pretty 'meh' in my opinion, but now its grown on me and i carry it everyday

My experience was quite different. Bought mine a few years ago when the prices were lower and was very impressed with the quality and overall feel of the Griptilian.

Your thread title is misleading. It implies that you are disappointed with something. Glad to hear you ended up keeping your Grip. They are alot of knife for the money and I've carried one for 5 years now.

I sold my grip. I could never warm up to the hollow plastic handle.

Nothing wrong with the knife from a functional standpoint, but it wasn't aesthetically pleasing to me.

+1

I've tried 3 times now over the years. :D No matter how hard I try, it just doesn't do it for me.

It is a very pedestrian and utilitarian knife really. Grips don't have much WOW factor. They are just simple, strong, light work knives. Most people that dislike them don't dislike them because of any real functional issues, its mostly the lack of WOW factor. Put some nice aftermark grips on it and it probably has that extra bit of zing to get people excited.

I have had the opposite happen.

I have received knives that I thought were really nice, but when I started using them discovered that the initial wow factor did not extend into use.

my grip is still my EDC, ive tortured that knife working in construction, and it just seems to keep begging for more. it'll be a sad day for me if i ever break it, but they are an amazing knife for the price.

I wish everyone had the opportunity to handle/fondle the limited edition Griptilian because the sculptured carbon fiber handle quickly ends any discussion about feelings of quality. It's definitely the most comfortable, ergonomic knife I've handled. What would be awesome would be a mini version...

I must admit, that is one beauty

also, what i meant in this post was has anyone ordered "any" knife (spyderco, benchmade, boker, etc.) that they hated at first but eventually ended up liking it after some use

Don't buy a production knife with high expectations.

Buy a semi-custom with high expectations. Then you actually get to see them filled.

I've had that happen with a few Emerson knives, I eventually started to appreciate their design after being initially underwhelmed. But I couldn't warm up to the Emerson Mini Commander. I sold that one too.

I've had my mini grip now about 5 years 555 with the Spydie hole and sheepsfoot blade. Great heat treat and edge geometry on the 154 steel. Very solid lock up. Fun to flip axis lock. Not alot of "Wow" but a great durable knife that is built to last.

I just ordered a full size Griptilian tonight. Will be my first Grip and my first Benchmade. I'm a Spyderco fan, but I figured I should go ahead and try out a Benchmade.

Waiting for its arrival. :)
