Kitchen KITH 2022

Crunch time. With just over one week left, we have three knives completed: N Nick-D , @CDHumiston and @Donny_D88. There are three more that only need some finishing touches: J Justin W , @Kevin Kf knives and myself.

I am hoping A A. Matthews , Joshua Fisher Joshua Fisher and FredyCro FredyCro will have one ready as well.

@TheEdge01 and @Travis Talboys said they're out, and @Fish30114 has not logged into the forum since July.
I drilled my scales last night and sanded the front of them. I should be able to do some shaping on them and get them glued up tonight so should be able to finish up on time. After the handle, I’ll just need to etch my name and sharpen (the part I’m most nervous about screwing up). I would be a little further along but I decided to get another knife ready to glue up at the same time.

Managed a session tonight, put the grind and green scotchbrite in to see if there are any grind marks left. The tip and plunge were fighting me a lot, some corrections still need to be done before final finish with Grey scotchbright (very fine). Might be able to finish in time.

There is a strong distal taper.

It looks really good.

Hey, I think Id like to jump in at the last minute if that is ok. I have a handful of almost finished blades, I m itching to finish something up this weekend.
Welcome to the party! I have added you to the list. What kind of knife do you plan on making? Any pictures of the blades?

i think one of my 165mm pettys in some 15n20 steel that JT heat treated. Im gonna usemy 10" diameter wheel for some hollows and then convex the edge, like I have been doing all my grinds lately. The "S" grind.
Thinking of doing a aqua fortis finish on some curly maple handle with a little metal ferrule of some kind. I love that look.

That sounds great. The petty knives always seem to get the most use at my house.

I spent yesterday evening on finishing the blade. Had to reprofile the tip slightly and it turned out to look even better IMHO. Prepped the scales as well, it is basically liner and bolster in African blackwood and the show side is vintage rag micarta. Micarta has crazy yellow and green streaks that don't show yet, so I hope to have some nice contrast once finished. The blade supposed to have metal bolsters, but there was no time for that unfortunately.

I am unfortunately away for the weekend, but I took Monday free, so still hope to finish in time.

I glued the blade in today with epoxy darkened with a little graphite powder. I used a slightly different construction method for the handle than I normally do. On my previous doweled handles I only cut a slot for the 3/8" tang and used a carbide file jig to grind the shoulders square. This time, I cut a shallow slot (about 5-6mm deep) for the entire neck to recess into and did not bother with a file jig, just kept taking a little off the shoulders until the blade went into the handle at the depth I wanted. I think it turned out pretty good, looks a bit cleaner and there is less danger of scratching the blade with the file jig.

That's looking slick man, love it

Mine is close, just need to clean up some scratches on the blade and sharpen. Just a few minutes of work when I find a few.

Decided to enter this knife instead AEBL chef. S-Grind. G10 handle and pins. Easily cuts footballs in phone book paper. This one has a finish that looks better than the orange and black knife I mentioned earlier.

I may send two knives to the person who draws me. I have a 1075 S-Grind chef knife with a monster distal taper I would like someone to try out. But it’s been my daily user for several months so I only finished one side of it.
