KITH 2 - Finished Knives

Boy, those are ALL GREAT. I might have to try to get in on the next one of these knife in the hat deals.

Here's the "knives" ;) I sent to Marcel, thought he was going to post pics but he must have gotten busy so I'll stick a few in.

I decided to be a smart ass, so I made my entry for the ugly knife contest and packed it in the box with a really nice cardboard sheath (corrogated!) :p My actual entry for the KITH was a small 440C framelock, which I put inside an evelope marked certificate of authenticity along with the paper with the specs and packed it in with the ugly knife :D

So here is what Marcel should have pulled out of the box first. Its ground from 1/4" thick stock thats off of a plow or feild cultivator, don't know what kind it is but it wouldn't harden much. The finish is a nice tactical black (read:heat treat scale) and the handle is wrapped in genuine black diamond baling wire. Gaurd is also 1/4" thick steel, arc welded on because silver solder is for pussys :p

Here's my real entry:
Blade length: 2 9/16" long .125" 440C
Handle :hardened .125" thick 440C, both slabs and the back spacer
Thumbstud: brass with copper
Pivot: .125"

Made for easy takedown. There is a hardened steel pin in a blind hole through the spacer and one 2-56 screw through the butt of the handle. Very solid knife if I do say so myself.

Lock up. I'm hoping it will wear in for him. Its only my second frame lock and both started out really stiff. I could hardly work this one with one hand, but the first one was the same way and it loosened up pretty quick when I started carrying it.

Well thats the last one.

I just have to say again that this was a lot of fun and I hope we do another one next year or sometime. The knife I got from Possum is really nice, its great to see another guy from BFC's work in person.

I've already emailed Wayne and thanked him for the knife I received.

The coolest thing of this trade for me was that I got a knife so different from anything I've done to date. So now I've got my first forged blade, that looks like a tough blade. Definitely coming on my next outing. The mix of ebony and titanium is very cool as is the filework on the spine. All in all a good trade for me.

Here is the knife that I sent out for the trade.

Steel: ATS-34 - mirror polish
Blade Length: 5" (measured from end of bolster)
OAL: 9 5/8"
Bolsters: 416SS Dovetailed - mirror polish
Handle: Stabilized Ash Burl

Was I supposed to open the envelope? Thought is was just packing material and threw it out. That fixed blade is a real show stopper and is the highlight of my collection. Just kidding. Got busy over the weekend and couldn't take pictures. Too busy shoveling out from our latest snow storm. That little folder is definitely stiff but it seems to be working out of it as I play with it. It's just the right size for pocket carry . Thanks Matt for doing such a fine job.

Sean, that's my kind of knife. The only one for a long time I have seen that exceeds the blade length that I prefer that really appeals to me as something I like as a hunter. WELL DONE. SUPER CLEAN.

I wish someone would post the one Belstain made. I heat treated that blade and I gotta know if the blade broke in shipping .

Sean, thanks for starting a new thread. I was going to do it myself but you beat me to it. Great looking knives, guys! I just got mine sent on Monday, so I was a week late. I'll start work on KITH3 now. Maybe then I'll be done in time! :D

Who's running this show anyway:D :p :D

Sean (smo18), that is a beautiful knife! We had kind of an embarrassment of riches here for a couple days, your knife came, Roger Linger sent one for a sheath, and I finished Laredo's all at once. My wife got to sit with them side by side...she thinks they're all great, but seeing the quality you guys put out has made me less a hero. :D I'm proud to be associated with makers like this.

I have to say the knives look better this year than last - everyone's been working hard!

Sean (Laredo), I have your sheath ready to sew up, I'll get it out this weekend. (Really!) Sorry for the delay, been sick and lazy. I sure hope you like the knife. It's a familiar pattern for me, but they're getting better and I think yours is one of the best so far. Big talk, hope I'm not just blowing smoke... I'm really concerned about sending you my work! Maybe that accounts for my procrastination...

Dave

UPS said mine was going to be delivered today, so I hope Thomas (Possum) likes it. I will post a pic later on tonight after I know he's seen it.

:D

Paul, no. A watched pot never boils. It went Priority in Monday afternoon's mail, so I'm hoping it'll be there today!

Dave- No worries, knife making has tought me one thing, patience. Ok. two things, patience and how to spend alot of money.;)

I am sure I will like it and treasure it. You shouldn't be leary to send your work to me. You just haven't had the chance to see my stuff in person. Trust me there is alot of room for improvement on my fit and finish. Hey Chiro75, don't tell him nothin' ;)
