KITH - "I'm In" - For those interested in participating.

Alright, So i thought I sent you an email the first time, Dont know if you got it. Just entering again to make sure everything is in order.

I'm in and will have a knife made well in advance of Dec 1st

Kelly (hellgap) sent me a note with a suggestion:
........ If someone is sending their KITH knife to Canada, mark the declaration "GIFT", and the value $20. Don't insure it. This way the recipient will not have to pay tax and duty.Don't put $0 as value or leave it blank, or the customs people will put in whatever they want as the value. In the description, put basic terms "TOOL", STEEL", WOOD","CRAFT SUPPLIES" etc. not "KNIFE".........

I use FedEx for Canada sometimes. They have a presence in both countries.

Thanks Kelly and Stacy to pointing this...
Same here for Turkey... "Gift" and "Craft" or "art" descriptions will do the trick. Don't describe it as "knife" please. I won't be able to get my gift :grumpy:..

Emre Kipmen

P.S.: my KITH knife is ready BTW. It turned out real good :D

I've been working on my knife that I've hoped to enter in the KITH, but this discussion of shipping brings up a question for me (and I hope this isn't taken the wrong way.) I've been out of work for quite a while now, and I need to watch my pennies carefully. How much more does it cost to ship something from the US to another country (ie Canada, Turkey, etc.?)

If it's significantly more expensive, I may need to wait until next year's KITH to participate. :-(

DO NOT ship fedex or UPS to canada. They will charge us a 50 dollar brokerage fee to pick up the package. Use USPS.

I prefure to put "carving tool" "bushcraft knife" or "Paring knife" on the package instead. Customs guys like to know whats in it. If it's overly vague it gets checked out. Just veer away from stabby terms.

If it's marked as Gift it can go up to 60 (or was it 40?) dollars without fees. This is Canadian dollars, so aim a little low to allow for conversion.

Thanks Munky and Emre.

PJ - I'll make a note for the person pulling the names to check and see that you get a US match.

Stacey I ment to say that too about ups and others they charge a huge brokerage fee. SHip with USPS and if you use the prioriy box it takes 4 days and is only 10.95 shipping. kellyw

I'm not quite finished mine yet. Handle scales broke. But is there a way to send a letter along with the knives? If we write them and email them along with contact info would you be able to sort them out? I'd like to send a little info about the knife, and would enjoy getting the same.

Just put the letter in with the knife when you ship it.I have sent a letter with mine every year and usually a cd with some shop pic's just to give it a more personal touch.
