KITH2005 Participants List in Here!

That's a great Idea!! Are we allowed to send our own custom "kit knives?" :D
I've got one just for you Mark Nelson :D All you have to do is put the handle material of your choice on there and do some light hand sanding (it's still at 50 grit) and you've got your own custom knife :D

I'm thinking NOT :footinmou unless is says Kit Carson on it :D

I beat you guys to it. Refer back to the original "rules" posting and you'll see I clearly say no kit knives, or customized production knives. Ha! :D

Thanks for all the effort. Here I was planning on sending Blgoode a gift certificate to Texas Knife Supply and then you go to the effort to make a kit and ruin my plan! That is the problem with people like you Jason, always trying to make other peoples effort look bad! :p ;)

Mark, So you're ok with the Custom knife kit then? I'm thinking old saw blade steel with 16c nail pins, one black paper micarta scale with authentic "age markings" and some slightly used oak flooring for the other side. If you like I can throw in an old boot for some sheath leather.
I'll try to send the parts early so you can get it done before the due date :D

I when I saw 50 grit finish the first thing that came to my mind was; "How did he know I loved satin finished blades!"

It's not really a kit knife per say. More like a handmade project knife. If it was a kit that would indicate that I would be sending Mark pre-made parts when all I'll really be sending is some rusty car spring and some moldy pine.

Mark, just so you know, I've been aging the steel in the back of my pick-up for the last six months! :D
Mace

Mark,
I've decided against the moldy pine. Just today I found a petrified cat poop in the basement. The coloration is OUTSTANDING! I will be sending it out for stabilization this week. It should make for some good handle material or maybe even bolsters.
Let me know if this works for you. :D
Mace

Just make sure you track down what left that poop and get all the available parts. Skulls art nice gifts, fur to stuff pillows, rawhide for sheaths, claws for decoration, etc..... sorry to all you cat lovers :)

Any news on who's trading with whom list?

My email program put this in the junk mail box. Maybe yours did too :)

Okay, here's how The List works:

1) Find your name.
2) The name BEFORE yours on the list is who you will RECEIVE a knife FROM.
3) The name BELOW yours on the list is who you will SEND your knife TOO.

In other words, knives flow from top down in this list. Mark Williams send
his knife to Donovan Phillips. Donovan sends his knife to Dan Gray, and so
on.

Because he's at the end of the list, Mace Vitale will send his knife to Mark
Williams. Got it? When we get closer to the March 19 "due date" I'll send
out the addresses.

RULES: make at least one knife that is functionally able to be used. That
means a heat treated, fully finished knife. No size, style, monetary limits,
but remember the Golden Rule: send a knife to someone else that you would be
happy to receive yourself. Do your best. I suggest NOT asking the person on
the receiving end of your knife what they want. Surprise them. Let's not
share pictures, details, hints, or anything else before the send-off date.
Take digital pics and make them a reasonable size and Jared P will get the
website worked out. As far as I am concerned, once the person receives your
knife, you can post your pics on Bladeforums or wherever, but let's not do
that beforehand. Sound good? It's preferable that fixed blade knives come
with a sheath, stand/case, whatever as appropriate. My knife from last year
was unmarked, but I'm going to attempt to mark it this year. Keep your
fingers crossed! My knife will be 100% better than it was last year, too, so
don't worry, Shappa. ;-) Busting chops is recommended, but let's be nice and
keep criticism reasonable and aimed at helping us all improve than being
jerks. Sound good? If something weird comes up and you need to drop out, I'm
people will understand. If you will be late or very early sending your
knife, please notify the person who is getting your knife as well as me. If
you want to thro cigars, booze, etc in the packages, too, then that's fine.
As long as there is a usable knife in there, that's what matters! And, most
importantly, have fun!

Thanks. I'd like to say "Read your damn email" but too many people dump too much email without even knowing it. I don't know why it would dump my messages, but yes, there's the list and instructions, thanks to Jason. My Hotmail accounts are almost unusable these days because of the auto filters. On my business accounts I turned the filters off and just deal with it. What a pain!

Yeah, you missd the list  I see how you are going to be about getting my knife. :( . Well you just wait mister. Three words: Tactical Cordwrapped Butterknife. That's right I said it. :D ;) :p

Mark Nelson, If you want I'll send you some fossilized, stabilized cat poop for bolsters to dress up the butterknife with. Let me know and I'll send them as soon as I get the sh*t back from stabilization(pun intended)
Mace

Anybody heard from Shappa lately? That boy best get back here and do some studyin, then get his ass in the shop and do some practicing ;)

Just kiddin, no pressure there shappa. Chiro probably won't tell me where you live......

:D

I just got some new belts and a new glass platten! :p
The platten will go on monday and I'll be grinding on tuesday! :D

Every night I make myself draw up one new design. I'm starting to get a better idea on what I want.

How about one of these for the absolute novice that freqent this section but have nothing more than a file, hacksaw, hand drill and wet & Dry?

We could stipulate the material as

File
Any hardwood from Home Depot

Etc

Anyone interested that is too scared to enter this one?

We could post questions to help with HT or one of the smiths here could say 'make this' and we could send it in. Once the blades have been judged, the makers names will be thrown in a hat and you get the guys knife that came out after your name.

This way, its cheap, there is little shame and you get to judge in your own mind how well you have done after receiving one of your peers blades.

Mark - Nothing wrong with a tactical butter knife ;)
Do you have pics of your stuff? I remember a big blade you did a while back.
Dont show me what you will be making for this though. I want to be surprised :D
