We could post questions to help with HT or one of the smiths here could say 'make this' and we could send it in. Once the blades have been judged, the makers names will be thrown in a hat and you get the guys knife that came out after your name.

This way, its cheap, there is little shame and you get to judge in your own mind how well you have done after receiving one of your peers blades.

Thats a great idea, these things are a lot of fun and I'd like to see everyone have a chance to participate. I'm too busy to organize it for ya though :footinmou Your best bet would be to start a new thread and see if you can get some interest, or some volunteers if you can't organize it yourself.
 
Hey, Temper, I'm one of those "absolute novices" with "nothing more than a file, hacksaw and wet&dry" and I can make a decent knife (see below). It's not the tools, fella!

how's it going fellas? Who's got theirs done already? :p
I'm spending time practicing and looking at designs.
I was spending some time working on an item for my guy (not the knife) when I slipped and destroyed it in a blink. Sorry Matt. :mad: I'm still p.o.ed about that. I'll take a shot a making another. wish me luck. :D
I hope everyone else is having as much fun with this as I am. :D :D
 
hmmm something not a knife that can be destroyed in the blink of an eye, I don't know what it could be :confused: but I'm not sure I should be trusted with one :D
I haven't started mine yet, but I think I know what I'm makin now. Other than finals, the quarter ended yesterday so I'm just now getting some good shop time. Should have christmas stuff done in a week an a half or so, then I'll concentrate on something for Jared to cut himself with ;)
 
I'm thinking of making the ultimate chopping contest knife.I got a line on the 1/4" ZDP-189 but am having trouble getting spent uranium for the outer layers,may have to switch to a platinum-cobalt san mai.

Seriously,I have three designs in the notebook.Still deciding on which will be the best one.
