Kizlyar, Kizlyar supreme and other Russian knives (Russian view)

I've only seen US renditions of Russian "Fighting knives." I'm wondering what the locals who are into bladed self defense over there like. Pictures would be appreciated.

I answer in order

1.
Only Russian knife I own is from the guy who runs Atropos knives. Amazing knife at an extremely low price. Have you ever used his stuff?

I had a knife from Atropos Knives. Model - Kratos. These are unique projects on the territory of Russia, since the production of the Balisongs in our country is a criminal offense (with blade more 90 mm). Given this, I believe that the price is much lower than it could be.

This is the theme of the master in the native forum: https://forum.guns.ru/forummessage/94/1819305.html
He also has Instagram.

Balisongs from Atropos Knives - good quality, and it is constantly growing.
I had a knife from the early batches, and there was still not very good quality hardware (screws and bonnets). But in general, it is a very strong and solid balisong. In terms of the quality of the finish line, it was at a level lower than Benchmade 62 or Kimura. There were traces of manual processing. But considering the price - I am ready to forgive him.

PS: the price in Russia is about 5,000 rubles. At least I purchased my knife at this price, now it is more expensive. For comparison, it is about 2 combat knives from Kizlyar, or 3 folding knives from Kizlyar.
Benchmade 62 in the secondary market is 2-3 times more expensive (12,000-15,000 rubles). You can also buy Spyderco Endura for this price.

My main point to this knife is that it lacks finishing polishing as a whole. But I repeat - Atropos Knives projects are unique and original. He does not only balisongs.

Any comments on Custom Knife Factory, or Andrei Sander Knives? I learned of them at Blade West, and was absolutely blown away.

To my great shame, I heard about the CKF factory, but did not study this issue in detail. I will try to study it on Russian-language resources and accomplish your goal here.

About Andrei Sander (if it is the Brothers Sander Knives https://sanderknife.ru/) I will write a separate post.

It doesn't seem to wear like real d2.

I wrote above - there are suspicions that Kizlyar Supreme is ordered from China. Therefore, it really can not be D2. It is better to refrain from purchasing these knives.

In fact, a very interesting topic, I also write a separate post about it - which knives are popular with ordinary people, former prisoners and migrants.

OFF TOPIC^ If anyone can help me - write, what is the reputation of the Russian pump-action shotguns abroad.

I bought a Kizlyar Pioneer based on this review and it seems worth the 89 dollars shipped so far. Excellent sheath and so far has performed great.

In Russia, you can wear a knife for self-defense, but officially a knife is not a means for self-defense.
You also need to understand that in Russia there are knives "household and domestic" and "cold weapons". Melee weapons are large daggers, combat knives and the like. Only hunters, Cossacks, and other nations whose knife is part of their national costume can wear cold weapons. For all other citizens, wearing cold arms is a minor crime, a penalty is imposed on him.
As a rule, the law is very strict, and a person who has used a knife to self-defend himself, his relatives or his home goes to prison. I mean self-defense in relation to a person or a group of people.
But 90% of people who wear a knife - think they can use it for self-defense. That is why it is believed that the knife for self-defense should be as cheap as possible - used and threw it away. That is why Mora Companion (and other Mora's knives) is the most popular knife for many people, who have a basic knife culture. This is a very versatile knife with good piercing properties. Almost all mora knives are not cold weapons. But it is more convenient to carry a knife with a fixed blade in a bag or warm outer clothing - it is inconvenient to wear a faked one in the summer.
Even in Russia, such a phenomenon as self-defense against stray aggressive dogs is popular. If a dog is sick with rabies and it bites a person, it is extremely dangerous and you will have to visit the hospital for a while.

Of course it is worth considering that most people are not fond of knives, and has a very low knife culture. Their knives for self-defense, as a rule - Chinese garbage from small shops. Balisongs, automatic knives, Viking Nordway knives, Pirat knives, less often - Ganzo knives. People who are not willing to spend a lot of money on a knife for self-defense - 90%, if not more. But such knives do not mind throw after use.

Automatic knives made by prisoners are also very popular. But, as a rule, they are difficult to find and they are cold weapons with low quality.

People with a high knife culture are more aware of the diversity of manufacturers and models. They can spend up to 250-300 dollars for a knife for self-defense, but, as a rule, they buy knives no more than 100 dollars. 100 dollars is a good value for money. It will be a reliable knife, which will not break in an extreme situation, while still you can afford to throw it away in a pinch.

Also, most people in this category do not buy a special knife for self-defense. Popular knives, popular in work, are universal. The best knife for self defense is the one you are used to. But the blade of this knife must be sufficiently long (~ 4 inches) and open with one hand. The handle should not be slippery, the lock should be reliable. Spyderco Endura 4, Ontario RAT Folder, Cold Steel Ti-Lite IV, Cold Steel Voyager Large and Cold Steel Recon 1 most popular. I will not attach pictures, as these knives are known to all.

Particularly "advanced" are XL versions of folding knives from Cold Steel. But there are very few of them - wearing such a knife, especially in the summer, is not very convenient. Models are very popular with such people: Ti-Lite VI, Voyager XL, Hold Out (big), Talwar 5.5. Less popular, but there are - Frenzy and Espada Large (because they are more expensive).

Very few people wear special knives designed for self-defense - kochergin's sabotage knife, kondrat-knife, Porcupine Knife and the like. But these knives have one plus - they are designed based on Russian laws, and are not cold weapons. Such people, as a rule, have either a very high knife culture and are engaged in knife fighting, or a very low knife culture, having bought a special knife, and not knowing how to use it.

Very few people wear combat knives as a self-defense weapon. As a rule - this is either people who have a license for a weapon (hunters), or just hot guys. Both the first and second have, as a rule, a high knife culture. Glock 78 and Kizlyar Knives (NOT KIZLYAR SUPREME) are very popular. Also very popular NKVD Finnish type knife from various manufacturers (modern replica), Boker Applegate-Fairbairn Combat...

If you are interested in my opinion - here is my top knife for self-defense in Russia (unless you want to break the law):
1) Mora Classic 612 \ Mora Sout 440 Black \ Mora 511 (old version)
2) Cold Steel Voyager Large \ XL
3) Tramontina Professional Master series with kydex-sheath

If you are a "bad guy" any knife with a simple geometry of the blade will suit you, the blade length is 5-6 inches, developed by guard-emphasis :)

Not bad, but it was possible to choose a more interesting option. Anyway, if the knife pleases - congratulations :)

That's right. Kizlyar knives were widely used during the First and Second Chechen wars. There were a lot of awards with a congratulatory inscription from the command. Today and Kizlyar and the Kizlyar Supreme fighting in the Donbass. This is due to the low price, wide availability and acceptable quality.

The issue of self-defense with a knife in Russia is really very difficult. If at night you were attacked by a robber, and you defended yourself with a knife and wounded him - you are provided with major trouble from the police. You will be lucky in one case - if the robber was previously convicted many times for robberies and drugs, and you are a Professor of linguistics at the local University, raising one eight children.

Thanks for the addition, I completely forgot to write that military operations are now underway in the Donbas, and there really are Kizlyar knives there.

I didn't want anything besides a simple old time design. Interesting often translates to left at home in my experience.

The idea is not new. The design was born in the USSR in the 50s-70s :)

I can't see the image but I'd be interested in any information about the origins of this design. We've had them in the states for decades where we call them "funny folders." I have seen a photograph of one that is dated 1948. They've been made by notable US knifemakers including like A.G. Russell and Ted Dowell, among others.
