Cpl, you can buy a seperate sheath, i think made of a stiff nylon canvas with beltloops...i didn't get one, i figure i can just tie the shovel to my pack.
if i were to sharpen the shovel up, i would want a sheath for it, that would allow me to carry it safely.
the edge is thin enough to cut roots and shaped well enough to split wood half-way decently. i also like the blunt force affect of the dull edge, it seems to work better in some cases than the sharp edge of a small axe.

actually, i am pretty happy with the way the shovel behaves now, so i don't think i'm going to sharpen it up...at least not for a while. i like the dull edge for smashing kindling instead of cutting it, and even with the dull edge it still splits reasonably. also, i figure with the rocky soil around here that i would pretty quickly destroy any edge that i do put on it.flnder said:When can we expect the review of the Siguy-sharpened Cold Steel shovel?
