Hi guys. Long time since I posted here.

Over the weekend I decided to go forward with rebuilding my GIB grinder the same way I had it in WA, rather than waiting forever for someone to show up to weld the parts together or install a secondary breaker box in the shop. After making that decision, I bought a new motor (same type I used in WA, 1HP "Farm Motor", fixed speed, 115V from Harbor Freight), and finished building the grinder... right up to the point of attaching the drive wheel. The problem is the set screw in the drive wheel must have fallen out (or I took it out and lost track of it). In any case, it's missing and I can't finish the grinder without it. This is the screw that goes inside the wheel, is tightened with a hex key, and holds the wheel in place on the shaft.

Now I seem to have two choices... see if anyone has a spare set screw they would sell me... or buy another drive wheel from Beaumont. The drive wheels are only $82 (plus tax, plus shipping)... but if someone else has a set screw they could sell me cheaper that would save a lot of that money.

I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask just the same.

By the way, if anyone is interested, here's a shot of what the shop looks like now (in Tomball, TX).

Call Beaumont and ask him what he threads the hole for and go to Lowes or Home Despot and get one for a few cents. It is just a standard set screw but I'm not sure of the size.
 
Let me run out to the shop and see if i can pull mine off my horizontal and see what size it is. Back in 19
 
Ace hardware & buy some bolts to see which one fits, then a second trip for the set screw. Most likely a standard screw, but it could be metric, so just check which size & thread pitch you have.

I've taken a little over two years off to sort out other things in my life, but now I want to get back into it. I have a couple of blanks that I made before I shut down the WA house, and I want to finish those. After that, I don't really have a plan... but then I never really did have a plan before. :D

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I'll try to pop by more often (and not just when I need advice).

i would have pulled the wheel and takenit to ace to use thier thread test strip glad you got it sorted out

Lookin' forward to see what you come up with. It's probably good to have no plans. My problem is I have too many!

The screw you're looking for is usually referred to as a grub screw, btw. Any hardware store work a turd should have them for cheap.

I told my wife I needed a grub screw once. About an hour later she was standing there naked with a plate of food asking me what I was waiting for!

Or at least that's what I wish would have happened....:(
 
Stan was right. I found the set screw for less than a dollar and it did the trick.

However, reminiscent of the first time I assembled it, the belt is nowhere near tracking true. That was expected. But now I have to remember all the little things I did to make it track in any sort of usable way... and this while the frame itself is wobbly. I didn't have time to do anything about that yesterday, but at least I'm in a position now to fiddle with it again.
