Just a couple photos, I added a sort of dust shield to atleast keep a good bit of the chunky dust out of my motor, also added an adjustable spark shield. I sit at my grinder and look down leaving the top of my safety glasses open to sparks, so I added it.

I really appreciate it when makers show us their high tech, hard to do techniques for mods. ;)

These are really cool and are a good reminder that not everything we make has to be super amazing or really, really hard. sometimes the simple things are just better.

I can post the highly detailed specifications of either of these technical modifications if anyone would like.

I like the spark shield idea.

Spark shield is a good idea. For those who haven't seen his shop it's a bit crowded in there !

BTW brush fire conditions are perfect in the area right now !

BTW ,Sam they found the body of the goat in the woods .Natural causes perhaps. No need now to fear being attacked by a feral goat !!

Nooooo!!!!! POor Mystery Goat, he will be sorely missed!

Mark, what's wrong with my wiring? I double wrapped those wire ends with electrical tape!

Sam I know belts don't break very often---- but if one does and catches the towel its
going to be an interesting choke at the tool rest, he he.
Ken.

For extra lighting id soak the towel in acetone and get a more natural fire light! LOL Nice job. Really like the motor setup.

Sam, put the tool arm locking lever on the right hand side for easier access on your setup.

How thick is that towel? Cotton, terry maybe? I'm thinking a striped towel would be a possible modification I may consider.

Replace that towel with a car floor mat and you will have even better protection

I'm with AVigil. The towel is a fire or accident waiting to happen. Replace it with a strip of aluminum or a strip of car floor mat. It only needs to be about 4" wide to stop the grit and sparks flinging off the belt.

LOL, if it catches fire so what, not like I am going to flip out and run away screaming, calmly shut things off and throw it in the slack tub no big deal. I did what I needed to with what I had right then to fix the problem.

MJV that's a good idea, I can still get at it OK.

Avigil, someone suggested leather I think i'll do that if I ever need to. It's nice it's flexible, floor mat would be kind of a PITA with the light towel it just folds up so I can change a belt without it in the way.

How do you relocate the locking lever? I assume I would have to drill and tap the other side of the tool arm receiver?

.

Yeah, pretty much. In my experience a burning rag in the shop is fairly trivial, and it's hard to get cut on a towel.

Now... my oiled canvas welding jacket wasn't such a great idea...

I'm with Daniel Fairly- striped towel. A side benefit would be that the stripes would give the user an additional reference point.

I just took the 8 bolts off from the top and switched the side pieces around. Everything fit right back up and it did not take much time at all to do.
