comments suggestions welcomed:D:D:D:D

I like the partially serrated edge, but the handle looks a tad uncomfortable.

J/K ;-)

I did my profile the same way--the angle grinder will knock those stubs down really fast.

The HF portaband is not that great. Mine required constant tweaking to keep the blade on the wheels, and it still didn't work more than 50% of the time toward the end of its life. It flexed like crazy and was noisy as heck. I bought a DeWalt portaband this year and am kicking myself for not getting it first.

There you go. Like most things, if funds allow, it is probably better to buy a quality piece of equipment from the get-go. Of course, the DeWalt is over three times the price....

I've not personally tried it, but Harbor Freight has a portable variable speed (good feature) band saw that I have read works OK for cutting steel (with the correct blade, of course) for around $90, IIRC. Perhaps someone with more direct knowledge will chime in? :)

Here's a link: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=47840

I use one and it has two plus years of hard use and not a single problem. I use the bi-metal blades from Enco

can anyone recomend a cheap band saw???

The HF 4x6 is a good saw for the price. The table is basically crap, (you can modify it) but other than that it's a great hobbyist saw. One guy on here has been running his for about 10 years IIRC. Just make sure you replace the blade on it ASAP, get a good blade and it should serve you fine. They often go on sale for around 180-ish, and you can easily find a 20% off coupon for any one item. So all said and done you can have a vertical/horizontal saw for around $150.

Edit: Whether or not you have a store in your area is another story. Usually if you go right of HF's website it's more expensive. They actually ave 2 sites One is harborfreight and the other is harborfreightusa I think. One will sell/ship directly to you but I believe they always want like $250 for the saw. If you can find a store it's cheaper.

You know, when I first looked at your blank I thought, "he needs to clean that weird notch bit up toward the butt", but after looking at it for a sec I started to think maybe you did that on purpose, and about all the little signature bits I see on some very serious knifemakers blanks. If that's something you did on purpose, that's kind of cool. Gives it some good character. Even if you didn't do it on purpose, leave it there. Kinda gives it a little something.

hey thanks man, the little notch on the back is totally on purpose to give it some flava, and also as a little something extra to stop your hand from sliding forward if ya jam the knife into something at a high rate of speed. everyone thought the design on the handle of the first knife was to much but i liked, and it feels good in your hand. heres the first, i left a little more on the handle.

if any one can figure a way to smooth out the jacked up choil im open to suggestions, oh yeah and knife makers beware, when you feel the magic to much you end up with a band aid like me!!!

Looking good! Hope to finish sanding mine today as well. IDK about the choil--I guess I'd wrap some sandpaper around a small file or stick and go to town.
