Nah, I don't think that's the case in the context I have seen it. It is in reference to traditonals that are custom ordered?

Special Factory Orders? Not positive what it stands for but I think I "understand".

This is a great idea!

GEC (Great Eastern Cutlery) does a lot of SFOs (Special Factory Orders) and sells their knives in little tubes instead of boxes. This leads to NIT and LNIT, or New In Tube and Like New In Tube.

Case knives are usually SS (stainless steel) but are sometimes CV (Chrome Vanadium).

BRK = Blue Ridge Knives or Bark River Knives
SYKCO = Scrap Yard Knife Company
HG = Hollow Ground

For you veterans, all the various knife acronyms come second nature. But for newbies like me, I think it would be helpful to have a list of commonly and not so commonly used acronyms at our disposal. I'm always Googling when I come across one I don't know and feel a bit reluctant to interrupt a forum conversation with such questions.

Busse-related acronyms' will require its own section (that TGLB reminds me). No wonder they have a dedicated sale section (Here is a recent gem: ######### Big INFI Sale - NMFSH, FBMLE, SAR8, BME, NMFBM and More ###########). Go figure... ;-)

I hear people refer to High Carbon steel as HC, some people call fit and finish F&F, RC is rockwell hardness

Its hard to find a thread that doesn't have PM2 in it ;)
PM2- Spyderco Para Military 2

Excellent Thread! And I agree, I would vote to have this be a sticky.

When I was brand new I struggled with the same thing around here. It is good to see that you had the heart to make this fine thread.

I see SPF in the Exchange. What does that mean?? Is it Sold Pending Funds?? I tried googling that one and got a lot of info on sunscreen.
