Knife and Watch combo. Let's see them!

Been a long time since I've posted in general. My father died on the 2nd.

I'm wearing his watch. He wore the same Seiko for 25 years, but last year the internals had completely rusted. So for Christmas 2020 I bought him an automatic Seiko with a leather strap. I didn't realize he had developed lung issues, and with heart disease he was sweating more. The sweat soaked leather band came unbuckled and it hit the tile floor at thebeginning of December. Crystal shattered. I was able to get a new crystal but by the time it was repaired, he had died.

The band is pretty gross, so I have a new one coming. It's a beautiful watch.

I've also purchased some watch repair tools, so I won't have to pay the exorbitant fees for repairs or even batteries. Asking around, average price for a new crystal and install was $90. I was able to get a genuine replacement for $12 but it was still $50 for install.

So sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing this story. Seiko is the brand I associate with my dad as well, and this post reminds me I really need to repair a few of his old watches I have in a box in the attic, those deserve to be worn again! Yours is beautiful!!

My dad was new into our family insurance agency in 1981, his first "white collar" job. Seiko was all the rage, and it was his first "nice" watch he'd ever had. He broke that one in the mid to late 90's, and bought the exact same one. He was a Seiko man.

For years I wanted to get him something nicer, but he loved his basic quartz one, and was insistent on have the day and date.

Its funny, I actually really wanted this watch myself, which is why I ended up getting it for him last year. He was only 65.

Grand Seiko SBGE248 and Skiff Culprit.

It is

It is an absolutely wonderful watch. The attention to detail and finish is mind-blowing. You won’t regret it for a second.

Bonus: You can buy it today without histrionics from the Grand Seiko Boutique US website.
Agreed, it was when I got the snowflake and saw that level of fit and finish that I just noticed I was never wearing the Batman anymore. Can’t beat the secondary market value of Rolex, but for joy of wearing GS is still it for me.

thank you......you being a high level watch guy.....I figured ya'd like stainless patek....kinda rare and this ones seen hard living too......
Its always nice to see watches that are not safe queens! Its absurd to see the pricing on the nautilus go through the ceiling.

I also noticed you had a 5146... stunning

I am saving my pennies, as I am after a Breguet classique 5177 OR Blancpain air command. which ever I can find and afford first.

Man we were all just playing nice and you go pulling out the Patek?!? Drools….
the pateks and other high end ones I haven't posted yet were my old man's. he loved them and wore them all hard. he handed them on to me to protect and wear, but I dont wear them other than a few of them. I collected for decades myself. mainly heuers pre tag and sinn, omega and various lemania 5100 movement watches. mostly racing and sport mechanical chronos. still have them all, other than a few i let go to collecting pals over the years........

Amazing, what a collection and I’m sure lots of great stories! I’ve got my dads broken seiko, but I still love it ;)
