Knife Auction website?

The CGI Perl script that the software uses will not allow cross referencing of files. Sorry.

Spark and I have been kicking around this idea for a while now. We have tested several software packages and are working on one now. I understand your concerns about so many auction sites but I think if we make all of this available under one huge umbrella, you guys will appreciate it more. Also the for sale boards should not be effected very much at all as I think they would have been already.

I am also working on a knife mall!

Jumbi,

I have no idea what he has planned as far as spreading the word goes but you can bet there will be something in the knife mags about it.
Mike,

Interesting bit of info.

Here is my take. There are clearly going to be too many auction sites dedicated to knives. I predict the ebay will remain a major player but the knives sold there will be of low to medium quality knives I also am convinvced that with Mr. Voyles background in the industry and expierence in running an auction service dedicated to knives he will be a major force in the sale of quality knives and will be hard to beat. It will be interesting to see what he will charge for listing an item and what percentage he will exact for items which are sold. I suspect the amount charged for listing and the percentage charged for selling a knife will be a major factor in he succedes. IMHO Bladeauction will slowly fade away based on the history of the person behind it and his at times questionable business practices. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. I had plans for an auction site for next year. Those plans have gone out the window since I am now convinced there will be plenty of excellent choices for us knife nuts.

Tom Carey

The basic laws of marketing practices are what is at play here.

The old BS saying of "build it and they will come" no longer works. You must maintain an atmosphere which is both professional and conducive to business.

In the beginning there were several forum sites before I started this one. I felt we could fill a niche that was not being exploited. Basically a more relaxed atmosphere so members could enjoy themselves in a moderated atmosphere yet still get the info they are looking for.

It has worked for BladeForums.

This will be the same philosophy I use for the Magazine, the Auction and the upcoming blade mall.

Great idea Mike,
I think Blade Auctions has pretty much turned into "Switchblade Auctions". Not that that's bad, but there are alot more knives out there than just autos. Too bad we have to wait till Feb!

I agree, there are a lot more knives out there besides auto's and that seems to be just about all that is offered at some auctions. As of now my personal favorite is bladeauction due to Jeff at confederate. He puts up a nice variety of everything.

Can't wait until Feb though, that will be nice.

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

What I meant in my post was that Spark and I were going to make it live in Feb '99. We had to get many other things done first and we should be able to do it soon. Not sure how soon as we are working on the Perl right now and some really cool plug in stuff.
