I'm building a survival kit around my sog seal pup w/kydex sheath so far Ive attatched a piggy back sheath for my Leatherman wave, Ive attatched a small carrabiner that holds fifty feet of cord. A small chisel and 2 waterproof pyrex test tubes 1 contains a number of matches and cotton and has a striker epoxied to the outside I also epoxied a small torch lighting flint to the outside of this tube as well. The other tube hold about 5 small fishing hooks some splitshot a few swivels 1 jelly bodied worm lure and a small spinner /spoon lure w/treble hook it also holds 10 finishing nails 2 sewing needles about 25 feet of thread the outside of the tube is wrapped with about 35 feet of 6lb test fishing line. I have a small led and a compass attatched to the knife via the lanyards hole. The way the sheath is set up, there is a good deal of space between my leg and the sheath(when worn on the belt I'm thinking about adding a small saw and an on board sharpening system, also a little wire ( for snares) any other reccomendations are welcome when it's done all post some pics.

Some heavy duty tinfoil, Also I'd buy a small sak, like a camper model. But man, you have to get some pictures up. Also, I dont really know about adding a saw, But its going to depend on what size you want, something smaller to go with it.

very nice set up mike...

i've been working on a neck knife based survival kit.... i still have to fool around with it a bit.... it's just going to have a few things on it like a photon, bsa hotspark, and a few other goodies....:D

I would sub the 6lbs mono for some gel spun spectra based lines ie fireline etc. They are waaaay stronger for the diameter, don't degrade as quickly in the sun/ water, plus they are strong enough to use as a snare.

Mike, that looks like a winner there.
I like the whole system, I like the knife.
I had a computer lock on me , so I didnt see if you talked about why each of the things was in this setup?

If you have the chance, I would like to see why each thing you feel should be part of it, and why it is better than something else you used before.....?

Hey Guys...

A couple of questions and a comment or two...

Riley..

Not to say it's wrong or anything but why,, Glass test tubes ??

Personally I wouldn't want to run the risk of them breaking and getting cut...

I'd also ditch the matches and cotton balls and swap them out for an Army Swedish Firesteel and some prepared tinder,, like PJ soaked cotton balls...
possibly a couple of chunks of fatwood,, some OOO steel wool or a number of other premade tinder...

It's pretty tough to beat a Firesteel/PJ cotton ball combo...

Another item that is quite often forgotton is a craft stick or three of hot melt glue..That shit comes in handy alot of times....

Also agree on the 6lb mono.. Swap it out with some Spyderwire Spectra..
Much better in my opinion...

A small SAK with a saw is also a good idea...

How do you use your chisel? Did you consider having a kiradashi custom made? Could be better depending on your use and with a sheath could give you more carry options. Plus they're cool.:D

Using hotmelt will help in making arrows, fixing a cracked handle and an assortment of other fix, connect and fill type duties.

and, here is another thing I would like to know about.

What situation would a guy find in the wilds that would call for sticks of craft glue?..

Ifd it's near the holidays, and you are longing for home you can build a small log cabin :p or those Pine Cone mantel dust collectors. :D

I got no clue, I really want to know what I'm missing by not having a hot glue stick?

Eric? help us out here.

The testubes are actually unused bloodtubes and are made of pyrex They are really tough I can throw a full one full strength acrossd a room in to a wall with no ill effect they are small but can also be put over fire to boil water although only a ltl at a time, as for the chizel I got the idea from v shrake one of my survival gurus It can be used to baton instteads of your knife, make notches for traps or shelters, and aid in chipping or grooving wood or stone tool, in the end it's just another handy edged implement, The matches are a temp addition untill I can update my fire starting equipment, great input so far

Handy looking set up RR. I also use a black nylon pistol type web belt to carry my Becker and canteen. I have snugly wrapped, wound a couple of long pieces of para cord on the belt itself.

Very interesting neck knife kit RB. Could you please break down your thinking as to each components use, and, what make knife that is. I have never put much serious thought into a smaller unit but I can see its practicality, like when I dont want to carry a ton of junk on my motorcycle.
