knife based survival kit

If it breaks than I'll have my amswer and its on to the next one...HMMMM possibly a BM fixed griptillian any thoughts?

The way I see it if it breaks it wasn't what I was looking for better to find this out at home than with a selection of knives afew mousclicks away than in the bush

Smart ;)

I dont think it's going to give you any problems. Its a stout knife, well made, nice beater, can't ask fo any more.

The proof is in the pudding, or the slicing and cutting.
Now that you mentioned the kayaking and snorkelling, and envisioning you being around salt water, then it lends more thought to the knife type, blade type and other attributes you are looking for.

I liked your "what a knife should be" reply on the last page, well put, spreading peanut butter, and also able to clean a fish and make a fuzz stick.
how true.

The whole deal is that I travel alot...sometimes out of the country to engage in outdoor activities...I might go island hopping in the bahamas....or kayaking in baja or hiking in costarica or camping in the adirondacks or small game hunting 50 miles from home....It's not that I do tthese things all the time but anyone of them has the potential to thrust me into a survival sit should something go wrong and instead of carrying 10 knives in my suitcase it would be nice to carry one multitool and one fixed blade that can pretty much handle anything adequately...it doesn't have to be ideal but just do-able....A leatherman or a sak isnt better than a tool box...it's nowhere near as good but in a pinch it does the job, that's sort of what I'm searching for in a fixed blade

RR,
Mine and your lifestyle seems to have a lot in common, I spend a lot of time in the woods because of my job in a lot of different locals, but most of the time not around salt water. Because of that last fact I am a bit lost on what to recommend, I carry a BM AFCK clipped to my right pants pocket, a 13ot or a 15ot on my belt or in my pack, and an ontario 12" machete which just got replaced by a tramontina 14" on the side of my ruck. These are my go tos that are with me 95% of the time and work well for me, however the only one that is close to rust resisitant, not proof, is the BM, the other two will rust like crazy if not taken care of. Chris

Hey everybody I just wanted to say thanks for all the help yoouve provided so far I know I ask alot of crazy questions...and I feel lucky to belong to such a great communiuty where I can talk about the things I love without people reccomending therapy... just posting it on some of my threads so everyone who has chimed in can see....THANKS

Let's kick this back up to the top so the Noobs can find it... And it's worth looking over again anyway!

If you like SOG you should consider the North West Ranger, I had one for a while and its a pretty decent knife for the money.
