Knife by Richard handle by unit

Nice little knife.

The scales looked like some sort of Jade at first look, then I saw that they are wood - very cool!

thanks for the pictures and nice work!

That is what I thought at first, was that it was some type of stone. Would have been a first for me if it had been stone. That is one beautiful piece of burl there Unit, and you did a great job finishing it out. A knife to be proud of for sure.

Blessings,

Omar

For those that like the burl, here is a (poor) photo of some razors I outfitted with it.

This knife was actually handled in scraps from the razor project.

But, the obvious question is, is it sharp?

Is that why my fingers are bleeding?

As if anyone is in doubt...it is indeed very sharp. My son and I have been using it quite a lot and its still doing a nice job.

This is one damn ugly knife. It has the image of an ugly man on it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371606385.493079.jpg

i bet its sharp though :D (macks going to get on you for calling his knife ugly)

The polish, the shape and the edge look great. The face etched into the blade is scary.

I wonder if we'll start seeing BKC, Spyderco and ZT's with the new face etch mod. Coulda started a trend here. Ya never know.

Okay, maybe sometimes you know. :D

That's a sick polish. I'm still stuck on the idea of neoprene scales though. Just sounds right to me.

the neoprene is some nice handle material. i first started using neoprene back in 92 when i was out at the gravel pit where a buddy worked at.
i seen some old conveyor belt laying in a pile that was not dry rotted and asked if i could have it. i had to cut it away from the nylon belt that it was laminated to and that was a job.

one day the owner told me to go get some belt skirting from this building and cut off what i wanted since it saved me from seperating it from the nylon belt. i get it in 1/2" thick x 4" or 5" wide by however long pieces they want to give me. i have enough to last me for a few years now.

i sand an end square, sand 1 side flat to get rid of the slick finish and a shoulder from the extruder mold and super glue it to the handle after i rough it up with some 24 grit abrasive. it holds on great and is a bear to get off if i ever place it on wrong.

unit, as far as the razor, if you still have the good side of the old handle, put it on the non etched side so its a little stiffer.

Did you know that both sides were etched originally? Someone polished the blade rather aggressively and removed much of the etching, but it can still be seen in the right light. Pretty neat really.

The obverse has two lines of etch. The top I cannot make out entirely, but the second line says "PORT HOPE, ONT."

i seen that and tried to read it but it was hard to make out. i never did anything to it since it was shave ready when i got it. i wonder if vinegar would bring out what it said any better? let me know if you would want to try some kydex instead of the lexan and i'll put the 2 pieces i told you about in an envelope and get them out to you. i could even put them in a flat rate box along with some whole bean coffee :D

Richard made me a bullnose version with this steel!! Cant wait to get my hands on it!! Gonna send him some knives to sharpen and I guess Ill get the bullnose back with my package!! Lookin at pics of this Bullnose I can tell i ll be able to shave with it!!
