Hello BF, I'm planning on ordering a Spyderco Native 5 CF in S110V from Knife Center, if you've pre-ordered from there before was it a good experience? Are they reputable and reliable?

They are very reputable and dependable. I would not hesitate to order from them again if they had what I wanted at the right price.

A number of people have pre-ordered Spyderco Militaries from them. The knives have been out now for 2 or 3 weeks, and people are still waiting on KC to ship their orders. So it is yet to be seen how reliable they are. They do warn you up front that ordering from them is no insurance that you will get a knife.

Well, I did get my orders, but only half on all three. I ordered 2 knives on each pre order and when they shipped they only shipped one. They also never sent me a message telling me, they just shipped out one, no email or anything. I have 2 more knives on pre order with them the 0801CF and the Spyderco S110v NativeCF. I haven't decided if I'll do pre orders with them again.

I have a pre-order with them for close to 2 months now and they send a weekly email on the status of my order which I appreciate. I have done business with them before and all has been good but this is my first pre-order with them.

They are definitely reputable and generally reliable.
As has been mentioned their communication is very good.

Pre-orders can be a bit iffy though. On Spyderco sprint runs I think they have a tendency to allow more pre-orders than they are likely to get, which can be annoying to some folks.
To be fair Spydie sprint runs can be a tricky thing for numerous reasons, one being its sometimes very hard to estimate before hand just how popular a run may turn out to be and how long it may take to complete the entire run.
They definitely make the effort to fulfill all orders and I have never seen any comments on them charging a buyer before they could provide what he ordered.

I have been buying and pre ordering with Knife Center since 2006. That is the earliest receipt I have from them that I could find. They treat me with respect, follow requests such as :check alignment, check for blade play, etc.

They usually recognize my voice and have my address and shipping preferences in the computer. They are one of the biggest, oldest and best so they often will get many more pre orders than they will get knives. They are up front with this and will stop taking any more pre orders when they feel it's time. Often there are a few extras as there are going to be some cancellations.

With the Cruwear millie I was the first in line. As soon as I was able to find the number "C36GPGY" I called customer service and asked if they had began a pre order yet. No they hadn't. Will you begin one with me first on the list? They did just that.

Recall I was talking to people I've known since Sal released ZDP in a Spyderco as records show that was my first pre order and purchase. :)

Yes, they are trustworthy, fast, honest and even though I only have returned one product out of maybe 160 orders/purchases I feel they would treat me well, but no different from every other customer in good standing.

I have to admit I like the swag they give away with purchases ( see the newsletter for details).

No, despite me being a good customer they wouldn't bump me up on the pre order list. If they had the time I asked them too I likely would have stopped doing business with them figuring if they would do it for me, they would do it for others. I try to get in early in the top 10 or so. That won't make the first shipment but it will the second usually.

This is why I don't pre-order. Others always get their knives and you're stuck waiting. It's best to stalk the forum and strike wherever they show up first. Or wait to see what problems the first run has and wait for a fix. lol

Does KC actually request credentials for autos, or is that just a bluff?

I will not order from them again. I ordered a Kershaw 1660TG10 Limited Edition Random Leek Assisted 3" S30V Plain Tanto Blade and a ZT 566 from them on 10-28-13. I knew the ZT was a pre-order, but I called to check on order status and was told that the Kershaw was sold out, and it would be months on the ZT. So basically if I hadn't called I would never have known that the Kershaw was sold out. No apology, nothing from KC acknowledging their poor service. OTOH a knife I ordered from Dave aka Kershawguy on Thursday was delivered today. Night and day as far as service goes.

They don't seem to care about the customer. It's no skin off their nose if you don't get your knife.
