Knife collection cost?

After collecting knives for a while I made a list w/the knives and prices I paid for them. I added up the cost of all of my knives and I was a little startled. I find solace in having the ability to recoup most, if not all, if not more than what I originally paid. I'm wondering what some of you guys/or girls or whatever paid for your collections.

I've got roughly $2k worth of knives in my knife box at the moment. That's after selling off a couple. And there's more planned. It adds up quick.

I currently have about $2,000 in blades.

I'm revamping my collection though.

I always assumed that custom/unique/one-of knives were beyond my means, all the while buying production knives that cost $50 - $150... Now I realize just how many awesome knives are out there from new upcoming craftsmen in that price range. Benchmades and Spydercos are cool, but to me something like an Oleg piece is a lot more unique and meaningful for the same amount of cash - oh, and it's an amazing blade to boot.

Lately I have been selling off or giving away most of my production knives, to be replaced by custom and unique antique blades.

I have all my knives listed in a spreadsheet and one of the columns is price paid. I don't want to know how much I've spent so I don't look.

Seriously, if I want to depress myself I'll just go watch a video of kittens drowning. Figuring out how much money I've spent on this hobby would be far worse.

My collection is priceless.

Because its mine. ;)

I don't care how much I have spent on this hobby (a lot). What's more important is keeping the wife from knowning how much I've spent on this hobby. :)

About 450. I only keep those I use, so maybe not so much a collector. Im pleased to say I have everything I need at the moment. 2 edc folders, 1 edc fixed, kitchen knife, woods knife, multi tools, and 2 mora beaters.

I've got about 3k hanging by their lanyards between the long guns in my safe. I'd rather not think to calculate what's on the shelves.

Oops. forgot a couple swamprat swords. make that about 4k in the big choppa category.

Stored in a gun safe. Receipts scanned and on the password protected laptop. What she doesn't know won't hurt me;)

Probably 30k. I can't save money anyway and the money would have been spent on something else that I don't enjoy nearly as much.

Definitely nowhere near what others on here have paid but probably too high. Since i really only carry a few knives, but cant bare to part with some knives i cant replace (orange ukpk, d2 paramilitary) either being limited number or out of production.

Ive boxed up a bunch of knives i dont carry on a regular basis and probably should look to selling some

A year ago, I only had two folders over the last 5-10 years. Then, I got interested (again) and now it's crazy. On Thursday, I had four folders delivered and today I traded for two others. It beats drinking, I guess, and I know I could sell all of mine and recoup perhaps 80%.
I don't buy anything for less than about $200. Three months ago, I knew I'd never own a CRK, and now I've bought/traded for maybe 6 or 7 of them. I had a NIB small Sebenza for two days and traded it today for one that has inlaid wood. Like I said, crazy.
I suppose customs are next. I have looked at a couple, but haven't jumped.

I would say around 2 grand. Sonny you are crazy! 6 or 7 sebenzas in three months I think we need to send you to some sort of Blades Anonymous.
