Hey guys, so I don't really have a large knife collection(it is actually rather quite small). I currently have 6 knives. How do people justify their the spending on knives? I am in Canada, and I am wondering how does selling knives work? If I buy a knife that I rather sell later to spend money on a knife I want more down the road?

My current knife "collection"
1. Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 Spear Point
2. SOG Zoom Black Drop Point
3. CRKT M16-14SF
4. Benchmade Griptilian Black Tanto Combo Blade
5. Zero Tolerance 0560BW
6. Zero Tolerance 0301

Get yourself a gold membership here on bf and you can buy/sell/trade to your hearts content. The Canadian exchange is kinda sleepy compared to the US one but you can post on either.

If I had to guess based on my own experience most of us "collect" knives simply because we like them and not to make money. I don't think I have ever made money on a knife sale. I usually lose money when I sell, much to the chagrin of my wife. Not being independently wealthy, I must sell knives, or trade them, to acquire new ones. I cant really justify the money I have spent/lost, except to say its my hobby, and hobbies generally cost money. On the other hand, some on here actually have very large collections of valuable knives that retain their value, or increase, by being kept in mint condition, but I suspect they are in the minority (not that there is anything wrong with that). Most here just like knives and talking about them. Nice start to a good collection by the way and welcome to BF.

"Justify" spending money on more knives?

Saving so much money because internet porn is free.
Stopped snorting coke.
Building credit rating through massive credit card debt.
Even the score for all of the crap your spouse buys.
The voices demand more knives.
Eating apple slices off the blade gets the chicks.
Easier than sharpening the knives you have.

Selling a knife involves listing it on a forum sale section, ebay, craigslist, etc. It ain't difficult.

I use my knives. If I plan on selling a knife I don't use it much. I am a university student so I don't have tonnes of free cash either, which is why I need to sell knives to acquire new ones. Which is why I was wondering about how the selling process works haha, I have never shipped anything before lmao.

Its not terribly difficult. Like others have said, just get a gold membership and you can sell them right here to a very knowledgeable group of consumers. Pay-pal is usually the preferred method of payment. Shipping is easy too, any of the major carriers will do. Go to the exchange section of this site and you can see how others have set up there sales threads.

Thanks for the information :)

I only need one knife. But it has to be exactly the right knife. How do I know I have the right one until I try them all?

Gideons,

I don't justify my knife purchases,I just buy stuff that I enjoy.

Just lucky that I am an old guy and all the important stuff is paid off.

My wife is a gem and never complains about the stuff I bring home.

Good luck to you in your buying and selling.

Is there a spot on this forum where I could post pictures etc of knives I want to sell and see what the value range is for them?

Very well said. the voices go quiet momentarily when I purchase a blade :p

Got bored with guns that just sit in the safe, and I have what I want/need in that department. Knives are fun because it's something you can carry day to day and actually use.

At the top of the page click FORUM. Then go down the list and find The Knife Exchange. There you will see many sub forums such as: for sale by individuals. Click that link. This is where you want to be.

'need' is not usually part of the decision on a new knife.
as others have said - cheaper than many other ways to spend money - and you have something when the spending is done.

Great advice and recommendation. Just be sure you have $500-1000 in your PayPal account to start with just in case you find a knife or two......or three......that you like/ want. :-)
