Knife collection justification....

If you get into collecting novelty Knives you won't have to worry about justifying your purchase. ( I have a lot of novelty Knives, because I like knives but don't want to have good knives I won't use just because I'm finding it hard to stop using my favorite edc ,so I'd rather collect knives I wouldn't use and just look cool ) but if you're strictly into using knives, then you can just buy and trade to try out different knives for edc. Now If you want to invest in knives, then go with pocketknives ( because they become collectable very easily, and case, GEC...ect knives don't cost as much as higher end tac folders do )

At the top of the page click FORUM. Then go down the list and find The Knife Exchange. There you will see many sub forums such as: for sale by individuals. Click that link. This is where you want to be.

I don't see a section for price checking in the exchange, which is what I meant :P

"Justify" spending money on more knives?

Saving so much money because internet porn is free.
Stopped snorting coke.
Building credit rating through massive credit card debt.
Even the score for all of the crap your spouse buys.
The voices demand more knives.
Eating apple slices off the blade gets the chicks.
Easier than sharpening the knives you have.

Selling a knife involves listing it on a forum sale section, ebay, craigslist, etc. It ain't difficult.

All of these are excellent justifications.

Probably the best way for price checking is to go to Ebay, look up the knife and view the sold listings for used ones. Disregard the extreme high, and the extreme low, and this should give you a pretty good Idea of the current value.

Also, don't be afraid to ask what the value of a knife is. With a gold membership, your allowed to do that. People here will help you out.

If some one asks why I have so many knives, I tell them that I am the Knife/Bayonet/Sword custodian for the local militia. :D:rolleyes::D

I like knives √
I like (x) knife(s) √
I paid all prerequisite bills that needed paid √
The family; wife, kids, dogs; are not in need of anything √
I have enough $ left over to buy (x) knife(s) √

Knife(s) purchase justified √

Collecting is a passion, which often has no reason. Once the family is fed, bills paid and kids educated I feel free to indulge myself although I do curate my acquisitions by choosing that which I know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

I started out with a few knives. Then added more and more, until finally I had one that fit my needs. So then I started selling off the ones that I did not use. It is a fun way to figure out what knife or knives serve you well personally. If you buy quality knives, you usually don't have a problem selling them for close to what you bought them for. I consider that difference in price "renting" a knife to see if I like it. And if you have time you can bargain hint and try a knife and end up selling it for what you paid or more.

You will go through many phases of knife styles and prices. You will loose money on some, and make some on others. The key is to save for what your really want and not settle for something less. That doesn't mean you will always be happy, again your tastes will change, but if you buy quality, you can sell it and make most of your money back towards your next grail. Then you have to decide if you are a "user" guy or a "looker" guy.
Best of luck!

Hey guys, so I don't really have a large knife collection(it is actually rather quite small). I currently have 6 knives. How do people justify their the spending on knives? I am in Canada, and I am wondering how does selling knives work? If I buy a knife that I rather sell later to spend money on a knife I want more down the road?

- Gideon

My current knife "collection"
1. Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 Spear Point
2. SOG Zoom Black Drop Point
3. CRKT M16-14SF
4. Benchmade Griptilian Black Tanto Combo Blade
5. Zero Tolerance 0560BW
6. Zero Tolerance 0301

Sweet collection so far Gideon.

I'm in Canada as well; there's many knife nuts up here in the great white north...

There's no "need" to justify anything IMHO. Kinfe collecting beats the heck out of collecting something like stamps. :D;)

Since you have 6 already the goal should be to acquire six more. Then the goal should be to get another 10 knives or so (12 preferably) to even up the collection number. A couple more times using that pattern and you're almost at 100! ;):D

Knife collecting is a worthwhile hobby IMHO.:thumbup::thumbup: It's very easy to sell here as well as others have mentioned so if you get bored with a knife it will typically sell quickly on the exchange.

A few of my folders out for spring cleaning; gotta hose em down LOL... ;):foot::rolleyes:

I stopped trying to justify a knife collection. You at most need like 1 -2 good knives. Just get what makes you happy. Life is short, live it with a smile.
