It's Atony's Benchmade and Wolfjohn's Buck collection that got me wondering. I'm sure every collector has a goal, like you collecting all variants of the Spyderco Police. Mine is to have at least one knife for every possible purpose (have a long way to go). I don't think collecting as many as possible of one type of mass produced knife is a reasonable goal, there must be another explanation.

I do use my knives, each time a different one, so they won't get worn out any time soon.

I believe the ones you are seeing multiples of are probably very limited production pieces. Benchmade especially is known for making 50 piece special runs.

My goal though is to have one or two knives of a unique design or role. Outdated picture and I've got a couple knives that aren't pictured, and at least two of those are no longer in my possession.
