Knife Disease: "I can't Wait"-itis

My big problem is waiting for a model that sounds lovely to come out. Very few available knives seem particularly interesting (but monetary constraints could be a restriction there), but so many "coming soon" models look awesome. I will be flat broke this summer.

How about having to send the new knife right back for return or warranty service? Ouch...

Honestly though? I'm 38 now. 10 years ago it was absolute torture waiting. It's gotten to be a *little* easier anyway.

I have come to the realization, too, that the waiting in anticipation is probably, in reality, the best part. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I feel disappointed when the knife gets here, but I do start craving the next one right away, and I know that what I'm actually craving IS that anticipation... that waiting... that checking the tracking every hour... the joy I feel on the day that it's supposed to be here and opening the mailbox and seeing the box.

Does that make sense?

I just bought a Bradley Mayhem on the exchange on Sunday thinking it would ship out on Monday sometime. I emailed last night to see if it had shipped yet since he said it was packed already. Earlier today I got a reply that it would ship by Thursday or no later than Friday because he has had a very busy week. Really? I am not sure I can take that kind of wait! At least I got a nice deal. It is going to drive me batty until it gets here though. I can't wait to start flipping it!

Man, you guys make me sound like a wimp. 9 month wait? I could not do it, even for a custom.

I don't blame you! The only thing that made it easier was that Jake changed his books around last fall, so I assumed I was off of his list and wasn't super upset about that (figured I would have the opportunity to get something nice eventually), but when he emailed me about two months ago saying he started working on my folder, it was a pleasant surprise :)

You all know this is a terminal condition - one which only a special few recover from. Fortunately it's a slow progressing disease - hell, I've had it for 20 years and it doesn't seem to get any worse. Alcohol isn't an option for me, however I think it would help. Possibly strong drugs. The only thing about our condition is that in order to actually recover, you would have to order a new knife every week (only having to Jones for the first one), which is not only expensive but it really honks off the wife. We should all meet in Gladstone Oregon, once a year, and directly trade blades - hand to hand. Other than that all I can say is "suffer sinner".

I'm 63 yrs old and still get antsy if my knives don't arrive "yesterday." Well, that's why they make Valium.

I had a package shipped to me in Bulgaria once. The shipper paid an outrageous amount to get 2 week delivery guaranteed.

7plus months later I got the package. The stamps showed it had been delivered to Bulgaria, to a post office one block away, where they opened it, and kept it for 7 months.

I once had a ping pong paddle I ordered online get seized by customs. US customs had a disagreement with the Canadian copmpany about one of their products (high end speed glue). Because of that, they charged me 3 times the cost of the paddle to free it from bondage. It was ok, in the end. The company paid me back for the ransom, and refunded my money on the paddle that they told me to keep.

I have waited a while for custom orders, and am used to wait times on Busse knives. I am pretty patient.

UPS is the worst it always says out for delivery by end of day I have had them show up at 9 at night to deliver end of day is 5pm damn it hahaha atleast when it comes through Canada post my wife picks it up in the depot so I know its waiting at home while Im at work. I have tried ordering from several online stores and waited the 2-3 weeks drove me nuts waiting for it get past customs. Now I order a fair bit from GPknives shipping isn't much more but I usually have it in about 5 -7 business days.

My problem at the moment is I'm not spending anything until after blade show. on the upside with all this time on my hands most of my knives can wittle hairs now lol....

I ordered two knives just today, and I'm already getting antsy. ADHD makes me really impatient, but fortunately it also makes it extremely easy for me to get distracted to kill time :)

Wow, and I thought I was the only one that thought this way. Relief....I'm normal ! Glad to know we all go through it. Just ordered another one today cause it has been awhile. lol

What I do is occupy my time preparing for the new addition. In the case of a tomahawk - and I am waiting for one to arrive currently - I check my stash of goodies. Beads, deerskin lacing, real sinew, artificial sinew, brass tacks, rawhide strips, etc and think of what I may or may not do. Or what I might need. That way I have everything ready to go as soon as it arrives.

Now excuse me as I check my USPS tracking # to see where my incoming ESEE-6 is. Again.

I am suffering right now. I have a horseman coming tomorrow. Hey but it came in two days from GPK with priority so I am happy

I feel your pain hahaha I have a ZT 0561 on the way from here on the forums it was send out today and Im already getting the itch that cannot be scratched until it arrives lol

Hi, I'm niner, I haven't ordered a knife in three weeks, fourteen hours, twenty three minutes, six seconds.

I have not ordered a knife in a long time.

I took delivery of a custom slipjoint from J. Oeser earlier this year. Nothing since then.
