knife failures buried and the earth salted...

Tracy: The hole I need to dig would be deeper, larger in circumference and hold a lot more steel......and the problem is..all of mine are slipjoints. Thru the years I probably have 40-50 or so. They all work...but are butt ugly, off center, ill fitting scales, cracked scales, bad grinds, you name it..they have it. Someday I'll do the same. When I screw up a slipjoint I pitch it...don't try to salvage it with new scales or new blade or new spring. I just want the damn thing out of my life!! I have a spot behing the shop in mind.

Were you worried about what the neighbors were thinking? :p

I'm sure the neighbors wonder a lot of things. We are like living next to the Beverly Hills Clampets. Right now we have little orange cones in the yard so I can teach my wife and son how to ride a little motorcycle.

I was really surprised at how well the stainless held up against the corrosion. The stabilized wood held up much better than the non-stabilized against the freezing and thawing. Significantly better.
