Knife Fights in Movies

"v for vendetta" one of the latest I liked, nice balance of tech and special effects in the last fight scene.

I liked that one as well. My other to favorites (already mentioned) are First Blood and The Hunted.

Not knife fighting, but Robert DeNiro in the Tony Scott film THE FAN played a down on his luck knife salesman of a company that used to be of high quality, but had just switched to cheaper Asian production.

I wonder if that role was based upon anyone or any company in particular?

Most of mine have been mentioned already, but I really like in The Punisher, where the 'bad bf' of the chick down the hall threatens him with a bali, and he takes it and mocks him and then hits him with it... I laughed pretty well from that.

Count of Monte Cristo

Edmond and Jacopo knife fighting on the beach in the sand. Edmond spares Jacopo and they become best friends.

Also the battle at the end with Edmond and Fernand fighting. But that is more sword play.

I don't know if this has been poasted before, but I'll give it a try:

What are some of your favorite knife fighting scenes in movies? I seem to remember a Peter Coyote film from the eighties which was all about knife fighting. Dune also ended in a knife fight.

I particularly like the ending fights in both Under Siege 1 & 2. Does anybody know the names of the knives used in any of these films. I think Seagal was using a Titanium SEAL knife in #2, but I couldn't find a pic. Here's a pic from #1:

Anyway, please poast any comments good or bad.

in the fight in that pic seagal used a Gerber Mk2 and tommy lee jones used a chef's knife.

IIRC, there is a short H2H combat scene near the end of Saving Private Ryan that ends with a knife. I can't remember if it was an actual knife fight, or if it just ended with the knife. I do vividly remember the way the fight ended, and to this day it bothers me.

There's a knife scene in Puerto Vallarta Squeeze with Scott Glenn against two bikers.

BTW, did anyone ever see the 80's flick THE CHALLENGE with Scott Glenn? It was about Japanese Swords.

The movie THE MATADOR with Pierce Brosnian, he had a neat looking little folder with a thumb lock. It looked like a William Henry.

It was, and it was Brosnan's own knife. During the production of the movie Brosnan suggested that the knife that his character carried ought to be a nice one, and the actor pulled out his own William Henry as an example. They ended up using that knife in the film.

That's the story I heard, anyway, and I do hope it's true. :)

I believe it jsut ends with the knife. And yes, it is very sad and very upsetting the way it ends...which makes the movie all the better.

Did we see the same movie?

DeNiro played an obsessed Psychopath who was stalking Wesley Snipes' character. Yeah, he was down on his luck; but he was also violently insane.

Gerber and Pro-Grip worked with the Producers of the film to help DeNiro be more realistic as a Knife salesman. The companies were supposed to get some free publicity in the film.... They never did. Hollywood hoplophobia strikes again!

was "the challenge" the movie where he lives in a sort of commune in japan and gets to learn the sword art?he's supposed to cut through a bamboo tree in 1 scene and bends the sword.
if that's the movie - nope never heard of it:D
just kidding - i saw this movie a while back

I remember Gerber being mentioned in the film The Fan. When DeNiro tries to interest a sporting goods store in the knives he's trying to sell, I remember the salesman saying something like, "Sorry, we don't need your product, we already have a deal with Gerber for our knives." I'm paraphrasing.

Gerber and Pro-Grip were supposed to get a helluva lot more than just a random line in the movie.

The Patriot and The Last of the Mohicans, especially if you're into hawks as well as knives.
