You are correct. It was a Model 16 with Talonite that I built for Walt. One of the few that I used a phosphorous bronze pivot bushing in. Needless to say, it failed, and I never used them again. I replaced it with a hardened pivot bolt and solved that problem.
As Darrel has said, if you build them right, with hardened parts, they will function for years with the flicking.
The "flipper" styles I build use the thumb buttons to absorb shock, rather than the backstop pin, as do most other makers.
IMHO, a loose pivot screw will cause more problems than any other reason.
