Knife for a deploying USMC Heli pilot...Recommendations!

Check out Kabar and specifically Beckers by Kabar

Paired with after market kydex and even after market micarta scales your still under 200 and yah have the 1095 cv that I love a lot If yah go after market kydex get ones that are spaced for tek loks so that a molle lok would work and he could put it on molle

It is too bad the Jumpmaster 2 is not out yet. That would be a great choice. The Aqua Salt would be a good choice. Both of these are in serrated H1 and will not, cannot, rust.
Another great choice is the Cold Steel SRK. It is a proven knife and tough as they come. It only weighs 8.5 oz too.

The Esee 5 was designed for downed pilots but it is too heavy, I think.

Hi. Personally I’d second the F1 suggestion. It’s really what it was designed for. I own one and can only say great things about, even if I never experienced surviving an aircraft crash or downing and hopefully never will :).

Then, if one likes the style, a dedicated helicopters crew knife it exist; developed by FOX together with some Army helicopters pilots from the Italian Army, the AVES:

Not my cup of tea (and don’t know how much marketing vs. real use this thing really is) but can be something particular and special for someone who likes the design. A stout blade is for sure :D. Searching around it’s possible to find at a price level < 200 $.

Another vote for the Fallkniven F1, wonderful blade that fits your brothers requirements to a T.

In your price range and for immediate availability, I'd go for the Cold Steel SRK in 3V. It's on the larger side (6" blade with 5" cutting edge), but is no heavier or more bulky to carry than the temperance. It can be found for a lot closer to $100 than $200 if you look around a bit.

3V is pretty much the ultimate steel for a survival / hard use knife. It's almost stainless, very tough and holds an edge.

Another option is Bark River. There's a certain website that supplies knives which sells them at reduced prices. You can get a Bravo 1 or an Aurora II in 3V for slightly under $200.

+2 for the Cold Steel SRK. Meets all his criteria and is well within his budget. Great knife.

Another recommendation for the Cold Steel SRK

+1 on the SRK and the Spec-Ops Combat Master sheath is a great field sheath! It will carry a firesteel, a sharpening stone and a survival compass.

In 2000 the Fallkniven F1,S1 and A1 models were tested by the US Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuexent River Maryland. The F1 and S1 were accepted for use by USMC and USN aircrews. The A1 passed all tests but was too large for the aircrews’ survival vests.

This begs the question of whether the CS SRK would be suitable in terms of size.
