Knife For Afganistan???

I have been looking at
RD6
RD7
RAT-7
Camp Tramp
Any others like these I should be considering? Thanks.

Hey Guys...

I agree with Maximus to a degree..A folder would be Very useful..
Too big of a knife isn't needed..6" blade tops...

Someone else mentioned the Ranger RD 6.. An Excellent choice...That knife will do everything you could possibly want to do...

Maximus..

There was also one other knife related incident I remember hearing about...

A fixed bayonet charge by a pinned down and out of ammo UK squad..
From what I understand several Iraqi soldiers were killed,, the others ran.

Unfortunately I don't have a source for the info...

I saw on the ranger knives forum a custom rd6 fighter. It was 3/16 inches thick, 1.5 inches wide and could still be used for some light duty prying, light chopping, fighting, and it looked real good too. Justin can hook you up with just about anything you want.

I can't find that forum. Could you provide me with a link. Thanks.

It is on another knife forum. Not sure if we are allowed to post link here. The admins may frown upon that. I tied to PM you the info, but I am not allowed. I must not have proper membership level. Email me and I send you the link.

I would suggest a Falkniven S1 and I have heard a lot of good things about Ranger knives. Busse are good but hard to find.

OK I'm really leaning towards a Ranger knife but would like some input. What length 6 or 7 & what finish? Thanks.

BTW I think I will get one for myself too.

Cold Steel's SRK is cheap, well made, and non-reflective. But your brother is probably already issued a bayonet and, while not exactly anyone's first choice as a knife, they're suitable for most of the tasks that a soldier uses a fixed blade knife for. So I think you might want to consider a folder if you want to get him something more useful than what he is already issued.

the rd6 [6 inch ] is the most practical of the three . as far as finish goes , get the black coated one [ no shine or glint] and he can use it back stateside and get it muddy without it rusting. CALL JUSTIN AND HE WILL HELP YOU !!! hes extremely easy to talk to and hes been where your buddys going . i talk to him all the time . get one for yourself , youll love it .

Yeah, the rd6 will be a good choice.Justin knows what he is doing and makes some incredible knives. Have you got the link yet? If you have, check out his site and his forum. As you already know, he was a ranger and has perfected his heat treat and design and all that. He is kinda one of those semi custom knife makers.

Thanks everyone. With yours and Justin's help I have decided on an all black RD6 for my Bro and a satin and black RD6 for myself. Thanks again.

Cold Steel is a popular knife for the military. The SRK is my first choice from their line for utility and combat both. Also the BK&T Combat/Utility 7 is a very good knife. If you like TOPS then my favorite would be the Fire Strike.

Very good choice, what type of multitool does he have?

I don't remember but I know it was not cheap. Next time I speak to him I will ask but he is training all the time now & rarely has access to a phone.

I got my RD6's and I'm very impressed. The black one is headed to Afghanistan with my brother. Worth every penny.

In a fixed blade I don't think you can go wrong with a bk&t. good steel, bullet proof and relatively inexpensive if lost or stolen. You also need to spring for a multi-tool which will probably see more use. godspeed to your brother and his unit while in country. ahgar
