Knife for Coin Pocket Carry

I've been literally been EDCing a case tiny toothpick for over a year in my watch pocket. Now I sometimes also carry a Texas Jack there.

My Opinel #6 was my favorite for coin pocket carry in my jeans. Fit my Levis just right, with just a hair sticking out of the pocket for easy removal. It helps that it's classy as hell.

Carried my Swayback Jack in my coin pocket for awhile, too. Overall size is a bit small, though. It would get angled weird and not be too easy to remove sometimes. Depends on your pockets. Just ended up carrying it in my normal pocket with the keys.

Anything with a clip goes inside my waistband where I don't notice it, so never try it in my coin pocket as it gets in the way more. I think an Opinel #6 should suit most just fine. It's traditional, yet "different" from your grandpa's traditional slippie most likely, while being classy, and still locking.... And it's very easy to add a lanyard hole and lanyard, in case your pockets are a bit deeper than mine.

Yes I carry a knife in my WATCH POCKET, why everybody started calling it something else I don't know.

I was just about to ask if the "coin" pocket was anything like a watch pocket.
And how can a watch pocket hold a 4.25" (closed) knife horizontally?

spyderco bug is awesome

Does anyone have a favorite knife that they carry in their jean's coin pocket? I'm thinking about Boker SubCom, or even better Albatros, I quite like the look of them. However not sure if they fit.

Any other suggestions? I'm trying to stay away from the Case kind of traditional as I already have a peanut. Thanks.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Spyderco Dragonfly. Mine is very comfortable riding in my watch pocket.

As soon as I find a good plain and rugged manual winding pocket watch it'll be the only thing in my watch pockets. :D

I have a nice pocket watch but the thing's too nice to carry everyday.

That's the point I was trying to make. Watch pockets vary greatly in size depending on the jeans.

These are Wrangler Riggs jeans. These first two pics show a Spyderco Tenacious at 4 1/8 inches closed. As you can see, it rides horizontally in the watch pocket. Well OK, not exactly horizontal but pretty close to it.

The next pic is a Rough Rider Canoe at 3 5/8 inches closed.

I remove the pocket clips from my knives but some folks might like the leather pad that's attached to the right front pocket.

Buck 55 all the way. My suggestion is if you are going to be carrying a one-handed opening "tactical" looking knife, why not go for something with a little more class in your watch pocket?? Not even a baby would be upset at seeing this knife. It isn't a slipjoint because it has a nice back lock, and the clip point comes in mighty handy compared to most drop points, sabre grinds, and leaf blades found on modern knives. It is literally a PERFECT fit in a normally-sized watch pocket (about 2.5" deep).

There are other threads on this site about watch pocket knives, and the Buck 55 has almost always been recommended. Probably the best quality that makes it great for this is the very THIN design of the knife. It is thinner than my Kershaw Leek/Chive, and it is just about the same thickness as the Spyderco Bug, which is too small for a deep watch pocket. It is only about $30, too.

+1 on the Opi #6.

If you grind/file/sand it down it'll fit horizontally in the bottom of the watch pocket.

Also love one of the smaller (USA) Old Timers in there like Kybosshog.

Victorinox Manager. The magnetic Phillips screwdriver and bottle opener is extremely useful.

Also elegant, sophisticated and non threatening.
