Knife for daughter

Those Kershaw guy links are great choices. My senior high girl had a Rainbow Leek catch her eye, and hasn't asked for another knife since. I did also give her a Buck Bantam for harsher tasks. But anytime we are out anywhere, it's her leek that she always has with her.

Haven't tried one, but people speak highly of them: Ontario Rat 2, there's even one in pink:

I was thinking a mini-grip. Then Dave posted the Native. That is the first knife I got my daughter. Delica or Endura is also a fine choice. I won't even get into the SD side of this. I will say that there is no reason to only look in the Tuff light price range.

My daughter recently had her first child, and while getting out of her car with the baby was watched the whole time by a sketchy looking person. I got her a knife for her purse, but I didn't want her to have to fumble with opening a folder so I got her an Izula fixed blade. Pops right out of the plastic sheath and when it leaves the purse it's ready to go.

I would go with a spyderco Delica. Or a something kershaw, like the brawler

My wife loves the Kershaw Leek and carries one daily.

She also has a Native, but it doesn't seem to be her favorite.

I think the Delica would be a great knife for her as well, plus there is a variety of colors to choose from.

Don't forget about a multitool and small flashlight as well. Girls have the advantage of a purse and can carry a few handy things with them at all times. My wife also carries a Maglite Solitaire LED and Leatherman Style CS. She tells me often that she uses the scissors on it almost every day for something. A Victorinox alox Pioneer or Cadet would be a great multitool also.

I bought my daughter the Mini Tuff Lite before she went off to college( actually had to buy her several, because the TSA got a hold of them when she was flying home). She loves it, it has an intimidating look for self defense, but is also a really practical blade. As a bonus it is excellent for whittling( something we do while camping) the only down side to it is that it is a little slow on deployment, like you heard.

I would also look at the Ontario Rat 2. It comes in pink if that's important and that thing opens quick, it is also a great EDC knife and a little more traditional looking than the Tuff lite

I'd echo the Spyderco Native. It's easy to open and close, and the handle contour 'locks' your hand into a solid grip, which would make it harder for someone to take it away in a pinch. It's also a great edc utility knife, is relatively cheap, comes in some friendly colours, and is usually immediately available in a variety of edge types and steels.

Honestly, there are so many knives out there that are so good. Basically, choose the company you are most drawn to, then pick a knife in your price range. Kershaw Blur is probably my favorite knife right now. Super light, super slicer, and super smooth.
