Knife for little sister

I just got a Native and I love it in the role of small utility/defensive knife. I know that girls like my sis tend more toward slashing, so I was thinking of something with one of those neato wicked curves (the aforementioned Harpy and Civilian come to mind). I have a Vaquero Grande, but as my sis is of lean build it seems too big for her. Maybe a serrated El Hombre. In the fixed blade area, I would probably tend toward a Mini-Pal (pretty cheap, light, disreet, SHARP). I just tend to stay away from fixed blades for concealed carry even though they are legal. Cops don't look on them with favor, and unless they are under a jacket or in a purse they tend to be kind of obvious. Nonetheless, i want a Mini-Tac for me, and maybe if she likes it she will ask for one.

Any opinions on my knife choices?

If anybody asks her, whatever knife she carries is not "for protection." Carrying a knife "for protection" is hopelessly politically incorrect, especially to conservative authority figures.

The knife is a convenience or an essential tool, depending, for cutting inanimate objects and maybe edible stuff. If a bad guy just cut himself on it, it's because just happened to be a better desperation weapon than a fistfull of keys.

But we do not carry knives "for protection."

James,

All too true. Since it would be somewhat difficult to convince the "authorities" that she really just uses a Scimitar or Civilian to peel oranges, what do you think about suggesting a Case Mini-Toothpick?

If at first you don't succeed, go buy a knife.

I suspect that any reasonably long knife carried by a woman will be regarded as a weapon unless she is on a construction crew or is out hunting. Given that, you might as well go for the best blade for the job. Pick something strong and light in weight. Also something easy to open with one hand. Spydercos are ambidextrous, which is nice.

I think that officers are liklier to let a woman get away with carrying a knife that they would try and take away from a guy. The courts are another matter. You don't have to testify at your trial so there is never any point in saying why you carry the knife.

If you need to be PC, get a serrated sheeps foot bladed rescue knife. It can do a mean cutting job, and you can always say that it is an emergency tool in case of car crash.
