knife for motorcycle camping?

An SAK is a nice knife, but your multitool already covers most things an SAK would do. QUOTE]

That is a good point. From a motorcyclist's stand point that may be very important since space could be limited.

I always wind up using the blade of the quickest deployment platform I have on my person for small cutting tasks. This simply means that the SAK with only a blade and couple of tools would be thought of first.

The blade on my multitool is seldom used by me.

The space issue could be solved in much the same manner as when in the truck. Folder and multitool on the belt, fixed blade in the vehicle for heavier use.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realize how many other riders were here, but knives/tools/gadgetry go hand in hand with bikes, I suppose.

My bike is a Kawasaki Concours (an old tech sport touring bike). I am an experienced touring rider and camper, but the trip I have in mind is longer and farther than I have gone before. I'd like to get to Montana and back. During the winter months we riders in northern regions plan all sorts of trips in our heads and look at maps like they're porn. This trip seems likely though, as I have already gotten the essential spousal okey-dokey.

My Victorinox Spirit is my favorite of the several multitools that I own and have owned. It is my edc for riding and just about everything else. I have a dedicated, comprehensive tool kit on the bike, but a multi is could for simple stuff so I don't have to dig out the tool roll for every little thing.

I also like a plain old cutter so as not to rely solely on the multitool's blade. I'm thinking the Spyderco fits the bill well, but somehow I feel like I ought to have a fixed blade for camping. If I bring the Becker, I can just about get away with leaving the hatchet behind, but the Becker is sort of weapony looking and this may cause problems if I enter Canada.

I'll probably go with the Spirit, Spyderco and Grohmann even though three seems excessive. Another idea is to leave the sheath knife at home and buy a new one on my trip somewhere as a neat memento!
