I'm tired of having to come to the rescue every time someone needs something cut at work. So I need to find a knife to hand out. They should have these things.

1. Non-threatening look (No Tanto)
2. Sturdy, able to take the relatively stupids task they will try to use it for, these are not knife people
3. Easy to sharpen (although, I'll probably be doing all of that)
4. Inexpensive (under $25, preferably closer to $10)
5. Something that won't break under normal use (I don't want to kill them, with the exception of one guy, but he won't be getting one anyway)
6. 2"-3.5" I don't want a tactical ninja knife.
7. Straight edge, I hate combo, and they'll just hurt themselves on the serrations.

I was thinking Vic Cadet but I could only find pink ones last time I went where I've been finding them, I think it'd be funny to hand them out but I actually want them to use it. I also thought about those disposable blade utility knives, but was suprised to find that they run in the $5-$15 range .

I have found at my work the best thing is get some of those throw-away
box style cutters. Some are better than others but they get most jobs done
well, like cutting strapping, opening boxes, etc. Giving them a proper folder
they'll just set it down most likely after using it and you won't get it back.

When I lend out a knife at work, its one of those yellow OLFA utility knives with the segmented breakaway blades

The sodbuster's a great idea.

Otherwise, one of the smaller Buck lockbacks would be a good choice.

opinel #6 or 7

VERY easy to get RAZOR sharp, very affordable and very non-threatening.

pm this guy - Patriot Knives

i can vouch for this guy, hes great to deal with, and he has the absolute best prices on Opie's anywhere ive found.

come to think of it i think im gonna buy another 3 or 4.... theyre quite fun to use and they make a great first knife for a kid too.

In that price range I used a Husky utility knife with the blade storage inside of the knife. Held 5 blades and came with a belt pouch. Costs about $10-15.

Maybe Ka-Bar Dozier folding knives? I've heard some okay things about them but the price might be a bit steep for a give away knife (about $20)

go with the case sodbuster jr. find a more sheeple friendly work horse of a knife and tell me . i'll buy it.

Sebenza!
I vote for the Opinel 8 or the retractable blade box cutters for the digitally coordinated challenged.

Or a Buck Bucklite Max? The price is a bit better than the Dozier, and it's a Made in the USA Buck. Can't go wrong!

a cadet would be awesome! i love my cadet:thumbup: and if you find pink ones for $15 i want one!

folding utility knife - you can find multi-packs under $20 at home despot or similar tool stores and replacement blades are dirt cheap at harbor freight.
otherwise, Opinel #6 or #8.

How about a Kershaw Half Ton or a small Kershaw Vapor ? Spyderco also has some good ones in the Byrd line. Boker has the Trance which is in your price range. Good Luck! Kevin

Another vote for the Opinel #8. The Kabar Doziers are also nice but wouldn't sell for less than $20 over here.
Or maybe a cheap Mora FB.

I would have to echo those who said folding utility knife. They are pretty much idiot proof, non-tactical, sturdy, cheap, sharp as hell....
and you don't even have to worry about the blade, just replace it.:thumbup:
