Have you ever received a knife from friends or family because they know you like knives but know nothing of knives them selves? Well yesterday was my bday and a couple of my friends got me an mtech USA fixed blade--ill say no more :barf:

Anyways, nice of them to try i guess hehe. Lets hear your horror story gifts or maybe some sweet knife gifts you guys may have received!
-PS at least it can be used as an oversized letter opener (if its sharp enough anyways=P)

Eh, I'm lucky. Knife gifts from others have so far always been SAKs or Schrade Old Timer knives. *keeps fingers crossed* ;)

I have received some cheap knives, particularly from an Uncle who IS into knives. I am grateful and appreciative for the gift.

yep, its good to have people that care and realize what we like even if they dont know too much themselves. I guess ill just have to do more to educate them :D

A couple years ago, my brother gave me a decoration "fantasy" knife that looked like a bad Frost Cutlery knock-off. I *accidentally* lost it during my last move....:o

i got a Wenger SAK once, they thought i might want something to replace my Swisschamp since it was so big

i've never really liked Wenger stuff, and gave it to a buddy of mine who might actually use it

lol id feel bad giving knives away so they just get packed away and fiddled with sometimes. I actually havent gotten a bad knife yet, both my grandfather and uncles know a lot about knives and collect them, so i get the hand me downs or the new ones, which either way are awesome.

I've gotten several knives I wouldn't have bought myself. And I appreciate them all as gifts, even the Franklin Mint models. But this thing I received last year cannot be appreciated from any angle or viewpoint:

It's completely useless. And so ugly that when viewed in real life, it'll make your eyes water.

What about the spirit of giving? Screw that. Anyone who would buy one of these or offer one as a gift is a taste-less buffoon. I like to think it was a gag, but I'm not sure.

This past Christmas, my family, with my son leading the search, gave me, individually wrapped, a complete set of all the William Henry Evolution series. All the handle materials available at that time, Wow. But Wow!

I think my son thinks I am going to kick off soon and all my knives in collection will be all his. But I am going to fool him and live forever, not sure I can take my knives with me though.
:D :D :D

My wife and daughter (now 5) have given me a Strider SnG and a PT for seperate father's day. My wife is actually very good at paying attention to the stuff I ooh and ah over. She gave me a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special for graduating from Grad School and an Ed Brown Special Forces last Christmas.

I got one of the uber-cheap air force pilot survival knives as a gift. I appreciate it in the spirit it was given, but I don't think I'll ever use it for anything. I did put a wicked 30 degree edge on it with a belt sander, though. It was good for practice, and I don't think I messed it up. :)

I apprieciate the thought as I absolutely hate, money or gift cards as presents. I am lucky that my wife and daughters know what knives I want so I tend to get them.

A few years ago my sister-in-law bought me a folder for christmas. Cheaply made, ugly dragon on handle a real $9.99 knife. My nephew and her picked it out and bought it for me because they knew I liked knives and this one was "real cool"

What I really got pi$$ed about was my wife told me what the sister-in-law paid for it (she saw the receipt).
I've seen this knife in swap meets and stores for around $10 to $15, she bought it just before Christmas at a Sporting Goods store and paid over $40 for it (about 8 years ago)

I hate it when people get ripped off like that, to this day my nephew thinks that it is one of my favorite knives and that I don't carry it because I don't want to take a chance on losing it

The best, my awesome wife bought me a project I from CRK. I've got a good one...wife that is!(and knife) :D

Have you ever seen that video where the chump on TV is demonstrating how tough the sword he is selling is? He pounds it on the table and the end snaps off and flips around, stabbing him in the stomach.

I got one of those as a gift.

i'm pretty sure i have the folding version of that bald eagle knife. My mother bought it for me when she went to alaska on a cruise

I can see why you married her;) My g/f is very similar and doesnt skimp either. I mostly recieve cheaper knives from family members who just dont know any better, which is fine. Just enjoy the gift it doesnt matter if its not a great knife its the thought that counts.

Let's see, I got a no name folder with a back pocket sheath, and a box of used up folders (broken scales, frozen blades, lots of rust) from my family. They have multiple homes, RV's, etc, but always give me junk (filled my garage once with junk, too, but that's another story).
No, I am not well off like them, but I at least give them new gifts (Cobb grill, Spyderco H1, books, art), but I guess after buying their second boat (a sailing boat) for their third home (FL), and traveling there is just not time to shop, I guess:rolleyes: , so I get junk (not my wife, or my daughter, just me).:barf:
