Knife gift from people that no nothing about knives...

I got a set of Winchester folding knives with plastic handles from an older neighbor about 3 years ago. It was one of those wallyworld sets that comes in a gift tin at Christmas time. Clearly not something that I would buy myself, but a very thoughtful gift nonetheless. The old man passed away this year and, somehow, those knives became priceless overnight.

As they say, it's the thought that counts and if someone thinks enough of you to give you a gift, treasure it, no matter the monitary value.

If someone special gifted me a knife, no matter what quality it was, it would be in my pocket daily and would be a joy to use until it fell apart.

that is the one kind of knife that would trump quality for me. it wouldn't be the only knife I carried, and would be job specific, but it would be an absolute pleasure to take out and use every chance I got.

I got a browning made in cheena folder from my daughter, its got a laser cut buck mark cutout on the blade, and has green lami wood scales. I like Browning shotguns, buck mark T shirts, the color green, and KNIVES. Guess she thought she found the perfect gift lol. this is one of my keepers......now my sons I have educated and have developed nice tastes in knives :)

My dad knows nothing about knives. I remember two that he gave me. One was a home-made fixed-blade that a friend of his made. No clue what the blade steel was. It had a brass bolster and pommel. The handle was just a piece of bone. Dad drilled a lanyard hole into the pommel, and put a blood groove on one side of the blade. He also polished up the brass parts. It was a clip-point blade. I bought a cheap, Made-in-Pakistan fixed-blade just so I'd have a sheath for the bone-handled knife. (Only set me back $5). I lost it about 5 years ago when I moved into my new apartment..... along with most of my knife collection.

The other knife he gave me was a cheap fantasy blade featuring a standing dragon as the double guard. The hard plastic sheath was embellished with dragon pictures.

I've given him some nice knives over the years. A forrest-green handled Leatherman Micra, a Leatherman Sideclip, and a large, clip-point, ColdSteel Voyager. He lives in Armenia. Although it's not a backwards nation, the tools and knives I've given him would equal a few months pay, over there.

First of all
Its the thought that counts
God bless em
That having been said ,I was gonna start this same thread two weeks ago.

I mean,Damn,what do you do?
Gee thanks man,wow,thats cool.

ETA:I cant believe i even took this out of the closet, let alone just posted a pic of it on a public forum.Im ruined.

My in-laws are all the time giving me knives. Every time we visit, I'll show them a quality knife I'm carrying, but they don;t really appreciate it. They don;t understand the components...all they see is the knife itself which, in their eyes, looks just like any other knife. So.....next Christmas or b-day I'll get another cheapie. I gotta love em though......and I've gotta give 'em a big, beaming smile like this :D
