I had been wanting one of Brian's knives ever since he posted the first he had made a few years back. I procrastinated too long, and his waiting time got up to well over a year, so I added my name to the list. I was pleasantly surprised when he got in touch with me a few weeks back and said my knife was almost done!

I really like the look and size of his Trailsman model, so that's what I ordered. Steel is O1 with a nice grey etch and and super sharp hardening line. Handle material is my favorite, natural Micarta, and it also has a very nice pouch sheath. Spine is 3/16ths, and the blade is just over 5 1/2".

Initial impression is, this knife is excellent. Brian has a well deserved reputation for making awesome, tough use knives, and this feels like it will be right at home in the woods. I will post more when I can get it out and use it, but just couldn't wait to share it here :D Enough rambling, here's some pics:

Copngrats Thayne. One of these day I would like to see a pic of all your "custom" outdoor knives.:)

Let us know how she does.

I will post a group shot as soon as I get my ironwolf forum knife :D

I will definitely post more pics when I get it out there and get it dirty. (gasp!)

Man thats cool. I agree on Brian's work! Damn fine stuff.

I have one of Brian's called a Grimlin...It is a sweet lil knife that cuts like a razor!

BTW Andy, I have one of your Nessies I bought from another forum member and it is AWESOME! (Little plug for you there)

You can really tell when a maker gets out and uses his designs in the field. It doesn't much matter how the knife looks, but I can grab onto a knife and tell right away when a guy uses his own knives. The handle is a dead giveaway, and this one has that feeling that is just right. Luckily I've had success with all the fine makers I've worked with lately, they all make comfortable knives that are made to be used, and used without hot spots.

Do you have any GL Drew knives yet. Man. I'm a fan of his handles.

No, I almost had one of his choppers but got beat to it. The handle on my Nessie from you is no slouch my friend :D The warmth of that iron wood paired with the perfect shape makes it one I can carve with indefinitely without raising hot spots.

Thats high praise. Its exactly what I'm going for when I make em.

I've got two GL drews. The first one is sculpted to my hand like a glove. The second is one of his trade knives, and not intended to be so.

He's goood though.

hey..........that looks familiar :)
Good to see it next to the NWA made knife :)
Go get it used!!!:p:D

Thanks everybody, and thanks Brian! I've already used it in the kitchen a little bit, it really is a great slicer and dicer. I'm going to try and get away for a quick hike tomorrow, do some woodcarving. So far it feels excellent in hand, and with the wide blade it's easy to choke up for fine cutting.
