Knife history for BCCI website

EEE,

Like I told Dave, organize, write, photo, what you have. Give Jack Foresman an email for website particularities. If you know about a knife you don't have, put a blank photo there and maybe a photo will show up later from a Buck Buddy. Photos only have to be saved at size 800 pixels width. Your wasting your own memory for anything bigger for the web history. EEE, just make a start on the 122s/124s make a time line, photo history, narrative about the knife, whatever. You can use Word or any writing program, don't worry about using pages I use one page per photo to I am gonna predict Dave will use a bunch on the 110s before he is finished..... MWallace helps me with Adobe and he fixes it up tighter. Messsersmith can do the same, fix something up and send it to him.......I am gonna speak for Joe here by experience. You can send him your work but he is working making a living and it takes him time to read all the stuff we send him, so don't expect fast turn around asking him questions or asking for proofing. Try to get it as accurate and well explained then pass it around between all of us we will ferret out the oops. EEE I would take only one photo per big knife per part you are showing, pictures of multiple knives could be for comparison but are not as good to see knife differences. You take good photos and I would encourage you use that method with some narrative also. I try to do the 300s visually, with bare needs written. I am not doing boxes on the 300s because I don't have them all and many times you get a knife in the incorrect box. But include boxes if you want. But, let me really really suggest that everyone start simple and add to your history as you get it under your belt.
We are on a roll, watch out Case, Camillus and Schrade history sites the Buck history is coming to town........and the team is working on the game plan....

300, My model is the Akonua first then Kalinga. We'll see how that goes. Then talk.
Staying w/ this subject;I remember someone posted a photo of an Akonua w/ the flat guard/nonpointed a while back when we were talking about it/had a thread going about it.Could you please e-mail me that photo as I need that example.Second,if someone has
the same type guard on a Kalinga please stand-by.As I'll end up needing that photo too.The knife I speak of will have a red birch handle and 3line stamp or a first year stamp > if no one has the former. This is not the rare one.The pointed guard is the rare one. So,if you have one hang on to it. DM

Guys, I know this is a long shot but have to ask.Does anyone have a photo of the Aurum
etched Akonua from the late 70's they could send me.I may not have space to use it but I'd really like to have it for history as these are very rare. Thanks DM

DM,
WAY TO GO, I like those models, your job should be fun. I know Jack would say thanks if he were up early like me to go crappie fishing before it gets windy......

One of the issues for everyone that will arise with all this history activity is using other peoples photos and writing. I am not sure about ebay photos but you should have verbal permission of fourm members and cite their work in text or under a photo as a class act courtesy. I someone knows about Ebay chime in.

I looked back thru all the pages here and could not find that person and the photo he posted of the flat guard Akonua.I do not know how to go back beyond page 6 here to find it.So,if you have more computer savvy, please step in.DM

I will do some of the 122/124's with help from other members....
:D

EEE, If you need a pic of the 122/124 with the white teflon spacers I can help out. Got pics of the box too. Just let me know...

If anyone needs my "limited" help in editing, formatting, resizing photos, converting to PDF, give me a shout. My contact info is in my profile.

Haven't visited the forum here in several weeks, glad to see these histories coming together... 300Bucks, I owe you an email, haven't forgotten you...

Mike, Glad to see you back.Hope everthings OK.Are you going to the Pasadena Knife show this weekend? DM

WoW....When I first got intrested in Bucks I thought there was a Book I could get that would have ALL I EVER wanted to know about 112's including all the LE's ,special project, custom shop ect.. It would sure make it easy to know whats rare and a general idea whats a good price/value number made ect...Instead there are bits of info scattered all over..Its a daunting task to even gather it all in one spot ,much less put it together in a knolagble, inforative format....I have really poor computer skills,[where is that spell check button ?] But since I really love the 112 series I'll take a shot at compleating SOMETHING on the 112's...Im not really sure how to start but I will gather all the facts/history I can and mabe by late summer I'll come up with enough to post in the BCCI web site...Today is the first time I went thru this thread..But I Can GETTTER DONE..

334DAve,
If you email me I can provide you with the photos of my 110's, which covers about 80% of all variations.

I'm not going to make it down to Pasadena. My wife and I are going North to the Oregon show next month though. Our daughter and her family live not far from Eugene, so we'll get to see the grandkids too...

bucksway,

Think about this....break it down into units that are not so
daunting.

112s -
Unit 1 - the versions listed in Joe's 112 list at top of threads.
Unit 2. versions stamped with a date code
Unit 3 Limited editions, buck custom shop, yellowhorse and factory special runs orders, such a those with company name printed on blade.
Unit 4 - all the other customs, non-buck modifications, etc. (such as putting a different blade in a 112 handle).

Take a unit and work on that, decide HOW you want to make your history. Mainly written with photos to illustrate (334Dave on 110s), use photos heavily (my method), a listing with some photos in a group, whatever..........try to pick one you will know you can accomplish and not get bogged down and give up on.

I would recommend you do YOUR knives first because you have those in your hand. Get that down and out for folks to see and you will be aware quickly what to do better on the next batch. And Yes, you WILL make some mistakes. I have had to have Mike and Jack fix up at least one thing on all my histories, AFTER they were up on website. And by golly guess what I just saw one on the recent history that I have to correct......but it just a minor deal and yours will be also........

Just don't try to do it all, all at once. Get your feet wet a little, Then dive in......

Yes, a good example is the short period when you could get a BG42 blade instaled in any 112 you cared to send in [along with 35.00 ] 100 total blades made...2003 or so??? Ill take a look at whats going on the BCCI site and model my efforts on the 112 to be simiular..

gee what a typical New Wantabe with Buck Fever would want
once i my self wanted such a item well here is the post i made years ago on that subject :\

Ok, of late I have seen many of the newbie’s wanting information on Buck Knives.
Many ask why this was or why not this...
or does ANY one know the reason for this.
This line of inquiry goes from simple- where is the pin to-I want so did they make this...
Many hear of obscure one off's and desire information as to that mystery knife…
Many want to know if there is one they are missing to complete a collection.
I, my self have gone through this many times, sick in mind and heart with Buck Knife fever and a burning desire for more Buck Knife knowledge.
One year I went to the best source I could think of to ask for things and asked for a book of information for my self and here is what I got back:

Dearest Dave,
I have been watching you and also over heard your wife saying that you have been a good man this last year. I am much afraid that I can only provide you with a Buck Knife once a year. I have left most of the other things on your list and this letter is concerning the only one I can not find. …

Re: Concerning the
‘Gospel and Final Word’
to collecting and dating those Buck Knives you so dearly love and want to put in order…

It TRULY seems that there is NO Final Word on Marking & Dating and what was made when and why on the nice things that have come from those incorrigible boys and girls at Buck.
{Note I checked with Father Time and he said there was nothing in the Time Past Vault and the New Year Baby only giggles over what is coming and wont say a word}….
I hope you continue to be a good fellow and continue to try to be kind to others and not piss any one off esp your wife as she and all other wives have direct lines to my list making elves…
Most fondly yours
Santa C.
PS: I missed them but maybe you could check with Uncle Sam or Davy Jones. Other wise your best bet since Vern has gone home is to gather every bit of information you come across your self.
PSS: Humm … let me know if you find out anything as that seems to come up often on my request list and I can use the information also!!!
If it is real good info I will get you and extra buck mabe...ok?
S.Clase

SO there you buck nuts go… so continue to share info and be nice.

I am almost done with the BuckMaster 184 info for BCCI web site...I am waiting a few weeks so we can get better numbers and dates.. Joe Houser has BUCK's IT folks getting some old computers up so we can verify this info.
Thanks CJ and Joe for all your time!

rich.

Way to go.....actual results.....

Ok, he has got his almost ready to send in. For everyone else, think about doing a partial. Say if you have the first half done go ahead and send it to Jack to post. If you guys who are still "organizing" yours. Try finishing the first part first. Or any part.....

Letting even part of a history lay on your desk or in your machine is keeping that info away from someone who needs it.

Even a page at a time is progress. Come on now we had a how-to photo article, you got some actual history examples lets have some movement. But for gosh sakes don't be so snooty about having every detail down pat that you keep your info unpublished. Just say information to follow, or information needs updating or something honest. Or don't mention it at all. As an example I have never talked about blade metal when doing a 300 history. It could get so complicated that is would take years to figure out and maybe will never be. So I just don't mention it. Folks can debate metal after they get the knife IDed and figure out where it came from. Since this thread got bumped by rich lets refocus on getting some more histories done.....300
