Knife Hobbie is over...

IMO , getting cut was part of growing up , and at 41 , I am still "growing up" from time to time.

The big thing is , you should not play with a knife , I do not mean to lecture but it is not a toy, it's a tool.

Try to spend some time proving to your folks that you can be responsible with tools.
That goes a long way.

Its probably a good thing your parents took your knives away. You arn't responsible enough to own them yet. It will be a long time before you can convince them otherwise. If you were MY son and you cut up your buddy with Emerson Kerambit or a Sog Pentagon, your behind would be sore for a week. You wouldn't be owning any knives for a hell of a long time either.

IMO your also too young to have that much time and money at your disposal.

My father bought me a Ruger 10/22, and an Norinco SKS when i was a little younger than you. I got use them when i wanted, But he made SURE i knew they were NOT toys, and they were not to be trifled with. He also kept them for me untill he knew i was responsible enough to be trusted with their care. Tactical knives such as the ones you listed are NO different.

Boys like to slash blades at each other like they are "knife fightin" i saw a guy playin around with a Buck 110 once and pretend to stab another guy and he misjudged sinking the blade in his chest about 2". Luckily he wasn't hurt badly but still some young boys do some stupid stuff with knives and guns.
A 15 year old boy buying dollar knives off ebay and peddling them to no doubt other boys his age and younger for 20x the profit. Bound to come to a abrupt halt sooner or later.

sorry you lost your knifes kid but its part of growing up, your probably sick of hearing that but thats part of growing up too.in a few years your life will change hugely ,trust me on this one. you will never lose your love of the most bacic tool and will own many of them before its all over . so relax enjoy being 15 , it will only happen to you once.iam 53 now and still growing up and enjoying it

Alright guys, a little bit about myself. I am Michael, 15, and I live in Canada.
A little over two months ago, I found myself a new hobbie: knives.

During this time, I learned a helluva lot bout knives, and its been a lot of fun. In fact, it is probably the BEST hobbie I have ever had. ever.:o

When I started with knives, I wanted to make a bit of money, and I thought they were cool. During that time, I bought $1 knives off ebay, and sold them for $20. It was easy money for me.
After 2 weeks of that, I met Cutlerylover (aka Jeff), who is a GREAT friend, and I learned A LOT off him. He helped me decide deals, and other conflicts in my life. Afterwards, I got interested in Balisongs, but never got one due to CA laws.(got one at night market, broke the next day)

Soon after, I got a great deal off ebay for a bunch of knives. After I won that, I have spent $200 in total.

After about another week n a half, I made all the money back, and had lots of great knives left over, which I traded or sold.

In the end, Ive had a Strider SMF, Benchmade Mini Dejavoo, Blade Tech Pro Hunter, SOG Pentagon Elite, Spyderco Merlin, Emerson Combat Kbit, etc.

last day, my friend and i were playing around..and i cut his arm by accident. he needed four stitches on his arm...

my parents are SO MAD. thanks for everyone for your help over this time.
my knives are gone. ill come on forum occasionally.
anyways, in summary,

What if you were "playing around" with a firearm? Your friend might be dead. Good for your parents. Kids your age need to learn some f*****g responsibility and accountability. :grumpy:

Instead of whining that your parents took your knives away, you should be thankful that you didn't do any permanant damage to your friend's arm. If it were my kid you cut, you would be sued by now and in jail for mayem. :grumpy:

Accidents do happen. I, as an example, cut myself not too long ago right after i sharpened one of my knives. How I let it happened, i do not know. Hopefully your incident has given you a new respect and precaution for knives, whether they be cheap knives or a few hundred dollar knives. I do find myself playing with my knives once in a while, but not to the extent where there would be the likelihood that someone can seriously get hurt (ie. horse playing with knives). Age your age of 15, you'll have plenty of other opportunities in your older years to acquiring new knives.

Wow guys! I agree with you, but you are coming down kinda heavy... NO??

Lets try and teach him instead of flamming him...??

Tom

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I haven't actually cut anyone, but have hurt friends by playing around with other things, like pellet guns etc. So I know how you feel. I did cut MYSELF on various occasions as a kid though. I was about your age, maybe a little younger actually and I was carelessly chopping at a wooden stump with a machete I had found and the blade bounced off the stump and the edge bounced back and hit me square in the forehead! I still have a faint scar to this day, and i'm 28 now. One time I did something really stupid. I was throwing a boomerang in the dark when suddenly....it came back and hit me in the face, leaving a nice little smile face shaped scare under my right eye. Yeah, its still there today =) I was always a prtty smrt kid.

Nobody gets through life with no mishaps. The main thing is learning from your mistake. If you did then not much real harm was done although you are lucky that is was not worse. I have been full grown for many years and have kept the Band aid companies in business.:)

well, just went to my friend's house with my parents.

they were very civilized and nice(thought they were gonna hit me).

overall, i am relieved

heres wut happened though:
we were playing around, he said the kbit was not sharpand blade too small, so we were flipping it around iwith the hole. and then while i was holding it, my hand sorta came down to put it away, then his hand came up to scratch or something. and it went right thru his jacket..

My parents did the same to me once, although under different circumstances. Someone pointed a nail gun at me, and when I pulled out one of my knives, I was seen as the aggressor. Spend the time off learning and saving, so you can make a kick-ass purchase when you're allowed knives again! And obviously, use utmost discretion EVERY TIME you use a knife, no matter what you're cutting or who you're around.

yes it was a lesson ill remember forever, i have learned to respect knives, but it wasnt enough.

Sorry to heat that. In Scouts the value of the blood bubble was taught. A concept that if applied to that situation would have saved you from your current situation. best of luck!

I bet he'll never question the cutting ability or sharpness of an Emerson Karambit, eh?

Seriously, it doesn't sound like that big a deal. If you were pretend fighting with the karambit you'd deserve a flame, but it sounds like an accident due to the knife not being in your pocket, a lesson I'm sure you'll learn.

When I was 17, my overconfident friend shot his foot (trying to use his crossed feet as a rest while shooting chipmunks) with my RWS 1000fps air rilfe, buried the .177 pellet in his foot through a leather boot. He pulled it out with a tweezers, we patched it up, and never said a word about it. Lessons were learned, no one was hurt permenantly, it wasn't that big a deal and makes a great story to tell over a beer.

Speaking of using knives responsibly, yesterday, to demonstrate just how sharp I got my Ka-Bar USMC I shaved my testicles with it, well most of them, that valley between the nuts was too tricky, so I quit while I was ahead.

What an overreaction, I can't believe I'm seeing "I'd sue you waaah" on a conservative knife forum. It looks like an honest accident. I'll keep an eye out for people like you and not let my children play with yours, sounds like you'll sue if your kid scrapes his knee playing tag. They weren't knife fighting or anything like that, it looks like a stupid mistake and nothing more.

Nice!

I shave small patches of arm hair sometimes (when people ask how sharp my CQC-7 is)

I wouldnt recommend it. Not because brandishing a razor sharp 7" bowie knife next to the boys is a bad idea, but because it's hard to get enough teabag action to make the itching worth while.
