Knife Hobbie is over...

Just learn from it. Life will go on. People sit in here and gripe about trafficking weapons. These kinds of attitudes cause CA to have such lousy laws. And from what I hear Canada's laws aren’t the greatest. You can get hurt just as bad running around outside. Just learn from it, and be more careful. I would stay away from knives at least until you parents have cooled down. You don't want to make them more upset. Maybe it would be a good idea to get some trainers so you and your buddies can play with them.
Don't let it get you down. Your hobbie dose not have to be over, just slowing down or takeing a break.

don't really want to comment on the behavior mentioned here, but i would like to say that even if one is not playing with a knife it's pretty easy to cause someone else injury simply by not being careful ENOUGH.
at 17 i was using my bali-song at work for one of the top ten responsible knife user reasons, opening a box. unfortunately i grabbed the bag inside the box and lifted it out from a counter at waist level without putting the knife away first. poked the guy i didn't see coming towards me in the head. now, i say poked him in the head and not stabbed because he stopped walking in extremely short order. minimum trauma to him, but i felt like a perfect ass for weeks.
the thing that's hard to remember at that age is that knives are dangerous all the time, and with no regard for intent. the thing i wish the law makers would understand is that so is every other damn thing that's hard or pointy or heavy or on wheels.

this kid got kicked off another forum after telling this story he put a 2" long 1" deep gash in his friends arm after after his friend thought the knife wasn't sharp seems fishy wait i take that back i was once his age its defiantly fishy i just hope he learned from the experience and knows how lucky he is that it was a close friend and there were no legal ramifications

What if you were "playing around" with a firearm? Your friend might be dead. Good for your parents. Kids your age need to learn some f*****g responsibility and accountability. :grumpy:

Instead of whining that your parents took your knives away, you should be thankful that you didn't do any permanant damage to your friend's arm. If it were my kid you cut, you would be sued by now and in jail for mayem. :grumpy:

& that imho is what is wrong with the world today, too much sueing and too much jail for little BS.

YMMV though lol.

Your 15 and I'm 64....I'll give you a little intro into knives. If you go to any big knife show where there are hundreds of sellers and all the big names are there....Take the time to go to the biggest names, remember that 90% of the people there are experienced knife collectors and sellers such as A.G. Russell who has been around knives since dirt was invented. You know what you will find on his table...BANDAIDS.....LOTS OF BANDAIDS....Almost every table will have Bandaids because all of these knowledgeable experienced people who have been around knives for decades will cut themselves. So don't feel bad....Your hobby will be there for you in a couple of years .

Playing with knives is not a good thing. And accidently cutting someone when playing is inexcusiable. Your parent were right to take away the knives. Ive never cut anyone in my life, and I treat knives like guns. Dont point it at anything you dont intend to cut. You have to have respect for them cause people can get hurt or killed if you dont.

heres an update (thought this thread died lol)

my parents tell me to sell them off if I want. which i did for some.

they allow me to use them again too, but I ask permission first, and then return it after use.

:)

Just wanted to add something else; dont know if its common for 15 year olds to be selling stuff on ebay for 20x they bought it for but i sure as hell didnt have a business mind like that at that age.. I commend you for it, as for cutting your friend, you'll laugh about it in 3 months.. it was stupid but everyone has done something like that.

Yeah I am almost 20 and just last year a friend stabbed me in the chest with a kitchen knife. However, we were not fooling around with them, it was a legitmate (read: alcohol induced) accident. But seriously, if you and a friend want to play fight, you should use plastic training knives. Also, you seem to have a remarkable economic talent, I see a career in investment banking or cocaine trafficking in your future.

thsi thread should be closed.

let me clear this up. we were NOT play fighting. it was an accident. he wanted to see it, and when i was going to put it away, his arm just came up as of to scratch, and then the blade just went thru. :(

as for 'cocaine trafficking', i guess it was because of me trying to get a balisong here?

as for that, I dont really have an excuse :). see, when i first got into knives, it was because of a balisong vid on youtube. After that, I spent almost a month learning about balisongs. And Because I did not know much about this matter, I thought the worst that could happen is to get it confiscated.

However, I have changed. of course, I still want a balisong, but just taken a different approach. A month ago I tried to ship a TRAINER here, but it never came to me, no letters. My approach now is to get a trainer that is already in Canada to practice on. ANd in the future, when I move to the States (possibly), I could get a real one.:D

Anyone who is so this sue happy should not be allowed to purchase knives.

His friend was playing too...and he is that...his friend...you would sue him??? Please...

BlazenGem you sound like a Smart kid. Use what everyong tells you on here and show that you can be responsible by doing thing before your parents tell you to do them. ive been collecting knives since i was 11 years old when i turned 12 i got my first fixed blade from my grandfather which is a tradition in my Family. My grandfather sat me down and showed me how to use my newley aquired knife properly, and told me about bad experiances he had cutting himself so i learned to take percausions useing my new tool that would help me from cutting myself. To be honest everyone always learns a lesson or two. when i was the same age as you i got a new knife i was really excited about and i decided to make it a bit sharper by putting it on my Sharpmaker and boy did it become sharper. That same day i wanted to practice cutting with my bad hand its hard being a lefty some time while collecting knives bc most of them are rights. well i thought it would be cool to test how sharp the knife was by cutting thorough a half inch branch with my bad hand. ive done it so many time with my good hand i thought it wouldnt be a problem well i was wrong not knowing my strength i cut throught the branch and deep into my left hand knuckle near my index finger and went all the way to the bone almost cutting the main vain you use to move your index finger. my point is everyone learns there lessons in one way or another. im still pretty young only being 22 i still learn my lessons from time to time. Ive learned there are people here that really now a lot and if you listen you will learn new stuff all the time.

Tim

Wow, and I hate grammar people...
