Knife Hobbie is over...

i guess its not as bad as it seems.

ill just act super nice and responsible. and hopefully, i will earn my parent's trust again. and get them back soon.

speaking of which, ill clean my room now.

What an overreaction, I can't believe I'm seeing "I'd sue you waaah" on a conservative knife forum. It looks like an honest accident. I'll keep an eye out for people like you and not let my children play with yours, sounds like you'll sue if your kid scrapes his knee playing tag. They weren't knife fighting or anything like that, it looks like a stupid mistake and nothing more.

No doubt. BlazenGem sounds like a smart and industrious kid who just happened to make a bad decision, not uncommon for 15 year old kids. Gem, before you know it you'll be 18, and able to decide whether you want to continue the hobby/trade at that time. I know 3 years sounds like an eternity at your age, but it's really not that long. Assuming your folks don't let up and allow you to have knives again before then, use that time to continue to read, study, and learn all you can about knives (and there's ALWAYS more to learn, no matter how much you think you know, or how old you are, trust me). Of course, it's possible that your folks are just really upset now, and that they'll change their minds and give you another chance a few months or so down the road. You never know. ANyhow, take care, have fun, and be safe.

Oh man, I am sooooooo sorry to hear that, I know you really liked knives...I am and always was happy to answer your questions about knives...I know you learned a valuable lesson here, so I don't have to go into that, and if and when you get back into knives I will most likely still be around talking about them, lol, and the forums will be here too...along with everyone else! So if you come back we will be waiting for ya!

I hope you stick around and still read and write about knives, but I could understand at your age losing interest since you don't actually have nay knives now to use...and talk about...Or look forward to getting new knives...But like I said, hopefully down the road you will be back! Whatever you decide good luck buddy!

This following your friends bringing knives to school probably had your parents really worried. Since it sounds like you realize you have to back away from knives for awhile, you will be reassuring them a bit just by doing that.

Knives ain't toys. His parents are more than correct for taking his knives away. Don't know how screwing around you cut someone so bad they need stitches. Also think of the legal repurcussions. Nough said. No knives for you. keepem sharp

BlazenGem you sound like a Smart kid. Use what everyong tells you on here and show that you can be responsible by doing thing before your parents tell you to do them. ive been collecting knives since i was 11 years old when i turned 12 i got my first fixed blade from my grandfather which is a tradition in my Family. My grandfather sat me down and showed me how to use my newley aquired knife properly, and told me about bad experiances he had cutting himself so i learned to take percausions useing my new tool that would help me from cutting myself. To be honest everyone always learns a lesson or two. when i was the same age as you i got a new knife i was really excited about and i decided to make it a bit sharper by putting it on my Sharpmaker and boy did it become sharper. That same day i wanted to practice cutting with my bad hand its hard being a lefty some time while collecting knives bc most of them are rights. well i thought it would be cool to test how sharp the knife was by cutting thorough a half inch branch with my bad hand. ive done it so many time with my good hand i thought it wouldnt be a problem well i was wrong not knowing my strength i cut throught the branch and deep into my left hand knuckle near my index finger and went all the way to the bone almost cutting the main vain you use to move your index finger. my point is everyone learns there lessons in one way or another. im still pretty young only being 22 i still learn my lessons from time to time. Ive learned there are people here that really now a lot and if you listen you will learn new stuff all the time.

Tim

I'm just curious. When you said "take them away", did your parents hide them until you're old enough to have them? Did they throw them away (ouch)? Or did they sell/give them away?

Good luck with everything bro

We all have cut up ourselves one way or another. I know i have:D

Overall Bro i know your young, but dude just reading your posts most of us knew something was gonna happen. It all happened for the best thats what i think. Enjoy life finish school don't worry knives will be around for a good while.

take care

Hi BlazenGem,

When I was 15 years old a friend and I were "studying" for an English exam. I had his cutoff fishing pole and he had his sword (given to him by his relatives in Japan). The sword hit, not too hard, the top of my right index finger near where the finger starts out of the hand. It almost nicked the bone. It took 4 stitches. Typical kid stuff. Fortunately most of us survive to become adults.

I still play with knives but I'm a little more careful. :)

All the best,
Rich

i cut myself a while ago and also needed 4 stitches

and my thumb nerve is still damaged, i'm still waiting for the feeling to return to normal

if u play with knives, ur bound to get cut sometime

Wow guys! I agree with you, but you are coming down kinda heavy... NO??

Lets try and teach him instead of flamming him...??

Tom

well said Tom...

hopefully this reminds EVERYBODY of the need to treat knives with the respect they are due, I am sure he KNEW if he touched the blade to his freind's skin it would cut, accidents and mistakes can happen, and the proper path from there is to learn from them. That is the difference between KNOWEDGE and EXPERIENCE.

What if it were a gun they were playing with?

Teenagers need to have a little more accountability for their actions and parents need to take a little more responsibility in disciplining their children. Like this kid's folks did.

I don't have kids btw ;)

At 15 my friend and I had guns. In fact many of my friends had guns back in those days. We never had any gun related accidents. But, kids do some foolish things sometimes, like when we were playing with his sword when we should have been studying.

I agree teenagers should be more responsible but that is all part of growing up. Little kids splash around in mud puddles. You could come up with several reasons why they shouldn't, but they do things like that. They're kids.

My friend with the sword and I are still good friends all these years later. He is a hard core bicycle nut. He rides on some pretty narrow mountain roads. Is that a really responsible thing to do? You can try to protect people but all of us take risks at times with our bodies. You need to have a few thrills in life.

Rich

My advice is to stay away from knives until you are a bit older and a bit wiser. You should be into pornography like most normal 15 year olds.

LOL. was into that stuff when I was like 11 (at a friend's party) haha

Well, lets see...
Since you joined here you have:
1. Repeatedly tried to find a way to smuggle illegal items into Canada.
2. Tried to get people in the states to assist with the above.
3. Sold cheap knives to "friends" at school who you considered a risk but "had them sign a contract" who in turn flashed them around
4. Screwed around and sliced up a friend...

Overall I think it will be for the better.

*Gulp*

Dare I say it but many teenagers these days aren't exactly little perfect kids. We often make bad or risky decisions that come up and bite us later.

Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and move on in life.

Laying down harsh judgements and consequences just angers us and encourages us to continue in a rebeling nature.

None of the above is from experience but observations of some friends.
