knife idea with lanyard as handle....been done?

Most of the pictures I've seen of peoples' S!K neckers have the fob tied, so that the knife can be used in that exact way. So, the similarity to me jumped out immediately. To my understanding, they have a second version with an actual handle now, which is pretty neat looking.

As for me? Now, I can't speak for other folks, but I can tell you that I'm going to pass on anything that doesn't have a proper handle. In fact, the only knife I can think of in my collection that doesn't have at least a three-finger grip is my ESEE Candiru, and I got it because, come on, Candiru!

Here's my two cents. I am having a hard time visualizing how you hold the thing with the fob, and when it becomes hard to visualize how a simple tool like a knife works, ... then that's a deal breaker. Something has gotten overthought.

I am a little bit confused as to the functionality of a design like this.

Would it just be a matter of removing the tang in favor of a small finger ring, so as to remove more steel in order to make the blade lighter?

Because I'd have to wonder how much paracord you'd need to really make it comfortable. And then at that point would it be lighter than a skeletonized knife of similar specs?

This is kind of a half and half, a Hard Edge Knives pocket fixed blade. Room for a couple fingers on the handle and then the paracord does a good job of filling out the rest. Not enough leverage for heavy tasks but sharp and nimble for light duties.

Forget the drawings. Mock one up out of cardboard, or, better yet, something more rigid.

It looks like one of those things that MIGHT work on paper, then fails catastrophically in actual use.

That is, if I understand what you are talking about. Almost like a cable tang, but with your hand replacing the handle.

i agree. you never know til you get it in hand. its just such a simple design that it would be easy to try and since its my first time to make any sort of knife it just makes it a little more fun for me if its a little out of the box, ya know? and it obviously wont be for everyone, it wouldnt even be a niche, itd be more like a "sub-niche"

i actually just joined this place called makers space and they have all sorts of grinders and cnc machines there, even metalworking and forging. guys make their own damascus as well. gonna post pics of the facility in a sec...$50 a month and you have access to it all. laser engraving, 3 different types and powers of laser machines

Neat but doing that may make it appear that you are promoting them. Just something to be aware of.

yea, just like the one at the bottom except you put a big fob on the end so that it pressed against your pinky and makes the lanyard taught and stabilizes the blade more than just hanging onto the lanyard alone...and its not about weight, to the person talking about saving weight. its more about size and shape. just has a much smaller profile and it looks better than a skeletonized handle in my opinion

its non-profit, if that matters. i just think its cool. im not promoting anything. i didnt even say the city its located

that's one of the most idiotic designs I've ever seen, so with the right "tactical utility edc" advertising it would probably sell a lot!
