Knife in the Hat 2005 Registration Thread

I emailed a while back, chiro....but never heard back. Did I make the cut?

Count me in.
I wasn't going to do it this year but now I think I'll give it a shot. I may have to drop out if my house sells before I get the knife finished. I'll bust something out in the next couple of weeks just in case :)

Koster, you're out. Sorry. ;) Just emailed confirmation to you! Thanks for the heads-up! Once registration is closed, everyone I got email from will get group email to confirm everything, but also I'll post the list here and if anyone got missed they'll get a chance to be included then.

thanks for the email. :p

I'd like to give this a shot also. I'm a stock removal maker if that's ok. Everyone in this community has been very helpful when I post questions. I feel I have friends I've never even met. ;) This should be fun. :D

Easy guys...I'm still on the fence here. I've never done a knife from start to finish all on my own yet. I've done a few kits and done minor work on production knives.
I've just gotten a grizz and I've ground out quite a few practice blades.
Yard sticks make great material for practicing grinds. They are a fairly consistant thickness and width. The measurment markings also help with getting grind lines even.
Any way here are my first ground blade and my next profiled blade.
If I join someone will be getting the best blade I can make...but make no mistake it will still be a NEWBIES best effort. Heat treat will be by Bos or R. Linger so at least it will cut well. ;)

Tom,

Your best ia all you have so dont fret. What kind of steel and handle material will you use? Looking good so far. Drill you another hole in the butt of the ground blade ;) It may balance it better one the handle ads weight to it.

Shappa, have you sent me your registration yet? I can't wait until November 1 so I can close registration down! I keep forgetting to BTTT! We'vce been travelling a lot lately, so if you guys notice the thread getting buried if someone can bump it for me I'd appreciate it. Couple more weeks to go... :D
Have you guys started working on your knives yet for the trade? Yes and no is good enough. I don't want particulars or pics to ruin any surprises!

Oh, and Shappa, just throw that sword in the background of your pic into the trade and you'll be fine! :D

nope rrrr  NO :D

O.K. I'll get my info sent off to you Chiro.

The sword in the background is a Steve Isbell damascus Wakasasi I picked up at Blade '04. She is a beauty! :)

Blgoode, My knives will probably be out of A-2. I have some damascus but that will have to wait till I get at least one decent blade made first. Handle materials could be, rosewood, cocobolo, zebrawood, carbonfiber, redwood, maybe a cordwrap. I've been collecting handlematerials while saving up for the grizzly. :)
I'm not sure about the pin placement yet on that blade so I haven't drilled the third lightening hole or the thong hole. Still up in the air on the thong hole too. Thanks for the tip tho.

Tom you should come on in and play. I would be happy to be the one that got your knife. That being said I have seen your taste in knives and would have to send mine to you along with some smoke and mirrors so you could never get a good look at it. ;)

Will we know whos name we got? I dont recall seeing this info.....
