Knife/knives you regret buying

Regret?

I have bought very few knives for myself and fewer to give as giftys. I like most of the knives I have gotten for myself and really like the few I have given to our son or grandson.. . few .relative to many others on this set of forums.

However, my latest personal audition is a CKT M18 that I am a little disputed in. Perhaps it is my fault though. Bought it on e-Bay and it ws pre owned. It seems to be in good shape cosmetically, not mint but good and the blade looks good edge and all . . . . The issue is that it won't flip open without a really vigorous wrist shake or arm wave. Could be too tight in the pivot . . .could be the oil I lubed the pivot with. Not going to fool with it too much, amI not that guy . . .not a knife mechanic.

But there it is, that is the knife I would rather replace with something more satisfying. What I'd really like (it'll never happen) would be pretty much the same knife from CRK in Magnicut.

1980. I bought the Original USA made Old Timer pictured below. I think it cost me $39.95. This was a lot of money for me during high school. Loved the knife but regretted spending that much money for it.

Copied this pic of the China version from the “Knivesplus” website:

I was also in high school in 1980 but I spent my $45 on a Gerber magnum folding hunter. Yes, $39.95 was a good chunk of money for high school me. It was my first "good" knife and I still have it, so I guess I don't regret the purchase.

I get buyers remorse with most knives that I buy these days because I know I have enough and that I don’t need them. Additionally, any knife over ~$250 I have regretted. It had nothing to do with the knives, they were all top notch quality, it was because I wouldn’t use them much, or at all. I always end up selling them. For whatever reason, I mentally prefer knives that cost $200 or less.

I bought this from website without holding it. I do this with most of my knives cause there ain’t shit around me for in person handling. I thought it looked phenomenal and I was right, it was phenomenal. So much so that I couldn’t use it. It was too damn pretty. I spent waaaay too much and ended up selling it for a horrible loss. Regrets? I’ve had a few

When I first came across the Forums I was looking to sell a Microtech Diract. It was the most money I had ever paid for a knife ($360?). I ended up selling for a huge loss but needed it to move on. Having not learned my lesson, I purchased a Socom and MSI directly and ordered both at the same time. After a couple months, I realized I didn’t like them or the steel. Ended up selling both also for a loss. I think I finally learned my lesson. Microtechs are cool but not for me. Those are who purchased them got a great deal and I hope they love ‘em.

I went on a pricy puuko, and leuku and sami knife binge from RWF that cost a couple K's earlier on,
Only reason why I regret them is because over 97% weren't used. Eventually
They went off to better homes.

Same same. Pekka's, Malanika's and the like... only to sell them off and use Ahti's, Kellam's, and Kuahavan Puukkopaja's.

Still love high end puukkos and think they are a sound investment though (I'm back on Danijels list).

I bought that same knife when I was in the Navy. Everyone else had Buck 110's and I wanted to be different. I paid $65 USD in 1984. I still have it, but have retired it due to sentimental reasons.

I don’t spend a lot of time with regret in my life. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. One knife though I do still wish I never bought was a cruddy Indian Kukri. The black horn and aluminum handled ones most of us have at least seen in gift shops. Caught a lot of crap from my parents for buying that one. And then to top it all off, it was crap steel under a cheap chrome coating. Not a hint of useable knife!
