Knife Makers - Stabilized Burl Testing Results

I hope none of the other guys take this the wrong way, but....
I think these are a couple of the best looking buckeye handles I have ever seen. Truly an excellent job Butch.
Thanks, Mark

This is what happened to that block of wood you sent me Mark. Sorry about the slow work up on this; I got carried away.

Thank you for your contribution to the feather fighter, Fred

if i had not cut it wrong i might have got a 2nd folder scales out of it (had i cut it even a 1/8" different i would not had the wood left for this folder )the folder was made with the part of the block that would have been the bottom of the handle of the hunter

Dang Butch! 3 knives, how big was that block I sent you?

I finally got mine finished so here it is. I apologize for the delay, but my time for knifemaking is pretty limited. I got a very large block of buckeye burl from burlsource. I could see right away that is was very nice looking with tons of figure and eyes in it. The burl was very easy to work and I also used a superglue finish on it as it was a little soft as discussed above. I am very pleased with the way the wood ended up looking. This is my first large knife and first double guard. Thanks a lot to burlsource for letting me try the block and I am sure I will be doing business again. Any comments are welcome.
Knife specs are as follows:
Steel: Forged 1095 with clay coat
Guard: Wrought with black spacer/copper/black spacer
Handle: Burlsource's buckeye burl
OAL: 14 3/4"
Guard to tip: 8 3/4"
Spine width: 1/8" at ricasso with distal taper

Finally used this fantastic block of burl. Work schedule was so busy this summer that there was very little time for knife making. Pictures do not do this wood justice. Mark, thanks for the opportunity to try out one of your blocks.

Steel: ATS-34
Fixtures: 416 SS
Handle: Burlsource's spalted maple burl
OAL: 11.75"
Blade Length: 7"
Spine: 3/32"

Mark, I finally finished this knife... My first hollow grind. Hope I didn't do your wood an injustice.

Eric, your knife looks fantastic. I am going to have to look for more blocks like the one you got. I didn't know someone could make spalted maple look so good. WOW!

Great looking knife Mike. Really nice job how you shaped the handle.

J., I don't think you have ever made a knife I didn't like. Both you and Butch seem to get a lot out of one little block of wood.

Hi all, here is a fighter dressed in wrought iron. The blade is forged. The damascus is made by me and is 456 layers of 1084-1075-15n20. I pressed a slanted ladder pattern into the billet and then forged it flat. The handle is buckeye burl provided by Burl Source, thanks again. The spacer is blue dyed maple burl and sandwiched with black vulcanized fiber material. This one will be going with me to the Ohio Classic Knife Show in a few weeks.
