Knife Manufacturers You Avoid

Lots of Boker Manufaktur Solingen knives are stunning, but holy smokes, the prices!

For that much $$$ I'd rather buy a custom knife made in the USA.

Probably not the Old School Tree Brand slipjoints? They are FANTASTIC value, costing less than CASE and as good or often better: The Magnum stuff is best avoided though:barf:

I roll my eyes at anything sold on the shelves at Sporting Goods stores such as Remington, S&W, Gerber, Leatherman, ETC. If you stock every B&M store with 100 knives, how can you possibly have a good handle on QC? Just saying....

first post
Gerber - I've a hatchet by them that has held up remarkably over the past ~10 years. current blades... staying away

Buck - "420HC"
SOG
Cold Steel & Benchmade - eh.

CRKT - actually I own two decent knives by them ("E-lock Starlight"? and some Stubby Razels). other than that, the steel is either bad (aus4/6) or design just isn't useful to me

Busse, Chris Reeve Knives, Lone Wolf, RH etc. - you think i'm made of money?? ;)

Dude!! That's some list. So basically you'll buy benchmade and spyderco and nothing else? You'd be better off listing what brands you DO like.

I forgot to list Mtech... other then the Twist which somehow is a pretty good cheapo bali despite all logic.

Like some other folks here , I avoid models moreso than companies.

I have no interest in SOG , Gerber , 95% of Spyderco and Benchmade's offerings.

Hell , I like what I like , no apologies.

Oh, there's more that I will buy. Have gotten my hands on a few hundred knives, with less than 50 being BM/Spyderco. For the most part, I'm only avoiding brands that don't currently offer what I want. The minute they do, I'll have it. And some of those I'm avoiding at the moment used to sell knives I owned in the past. Actually, BM pretty much goes on the list with their 2011 offerings, even though I used to have more BMs than anything else. There's a lot of upcoming Spydies I'm interested in, but I currently only own one.

I don't have many 'blacklisted' brands, just a narrower range in what I'm interested in buying.

I think you're missing out with Fallkniven.

You had American made Paraframes? I thought all Paraframes were made overseas. Are you talking about the Gerber Harsey Airframes? If so, they are quality. I miss mine.

Perhaps I worded that wrong. I had two other gerbers that I do not remember the names of.

Gerber: Their knives just suck.
SOG: Aus8 steel does not justify the price of their knives.
ColdSteel: Warranty and customer service are... u know.
Buck: Buck gives me a mixed response. Their 420HC steel is really good, but i wish they had better designs.

No cold steel knife has appealed to me yet. I have a couple older gerber gators that are good enough for hunting knives but none of their recent offerings. I have a few crkt's I really like but the steel is less than desirable but I live with it cause they were inexpensive and I like sharpening. They sure seem to fit the hand nicely and the designs are innovative. I hate every S+W knife I've seen.

I hate to admit but I'm not a big fan of SAK's . I have a couple victornox's and wengers and they don't seem to hold an edge very well and they're not comfy in the hand.

Gerber: because of poor quality

CRKT: This might be unfair but their cheaper stuff just uses lousy steel

Cold Steel: I just really don't like the styles
